As the slippery slope is getting ever more slippery, I got from Aaron Pfadt of Pfadt Race Engineering one of his trick aluminum C5 racing seat mounts. Talk about feather light! Then, wuss that I am, I bolted on a slider mechanism.
What is really cool about Aaron's mount is that you attach your belts to it, making the changing of a seat a quick and truly modular experience.

Is that legal? I wasn't sure and checked the CCR and didn't see anything specific about where belts are suppsoed to be attached. I'm not sure either way but I've never attached the belts to the seat before, just to the vehicle or cage.

The CCR does state that the belts have to be mounted in either the stock locations (for the lap belt) or to a secured piece on the floor. So that means you cant attach the belts to the seat mounts. Especially the sub belt.
Not much help can happen for you if the seat mounts break and your still strapped into the seat by going your route.

I order for that to be legal the seat mounts would need to be super strong and have the proper fender washers... Some stock setups attach the belt with the seat mount and there legal

I guess I was thinking more for racing. My GTI has the seat belt buckle attached to the seat, but in my racecars I've always attached the harness to the car or cage.
