How necessary, needed, or otherwise are transmission and rearend coolers in AI/CMC cars?
In the C5s, because of the proximity of the exhaust pipes, coolers to the differential and transmission are needed for long term reliability.
So what is the story for the trannies and rear ends in F-bodies?
Many thanks in advance...

Billy,
AI cars don't need any rear diff or trany cooling. The Chevy 10 bolt in the F-body is a weak link but if you pay
the diff guy to install a Torsen T2R you'll be fine. I have $3K into my T56 6 speed tranny and it hold up good now.

From the Mustang world...
I haven't heard of anyone putting a diff cooler in a solid axle Mustang, but that's not the case for the IRS cars. What I gather is that the airflow around the diff on the IRS cars in impeded by the "cage" holding the center section in place and there can be some reliability problems. I can't remember if exhaust proximity is a problem with the Mustang IRS or not. I can't remember his screen name, but I think Jeff Rhodes has a diff cooler in his '01 SVT Cobra.
i have a diff cooler on my r. mostly for the exhaust nearby. however, the original clap-trap innerds are gone (which needed the cooler) and i have a torzen t2r in now (but i still use the cooler)
