Well...this is not good.

Dave - you make the call for that weekend, I'm there, wherever "there" is.

Even though I HATE LaKilla.

I'll be there in TTC or TTD depending how the wagon falls now with fewer mods. The specPOS threw a rod bearing (or two) at Sandia on Sat. I'd have to say it doesn't look promising, however, for the weekend to fly with the current entry #s. C'mon with a late week push, drivers !!

Yes, I noticed that too, what's up with that ?? I think I prefer the language "looks like all but one will be out-of-staters" though ! I don't know why, but I'm still optimistic

I'm an out-of-stater (relative to you guys), but I won't count as a paid entry as I would be using corner working credits...

No doubt, this looks grim.:(

Where are the rest of the New Mexicans, or even the old Mexicans ? We need to do a membership drive down here.

I take it you have been to Wallace Bow events @ SMP or the like...is the turnout decent? The SC*A club race I worked this year at SMP had only 5 entries in HPDE, but Auto-x has a pretty reasonable (50-60) following at most all of their events.

Methinks that most of the non-W2W ABQ car nuts that like to turn are in SC*A, which, for now, doesn't have a good outlet for open track events, but I'm not sure about the politics of marketing NASA HPDE's to that group. Sounds like you've already tapped the SWMS and the Wallace Bow crowd.

Buy more volkswagens so that I can fix them and afford to go racin.

Chuck. Have you seen the dealership lately. arrgh. Work is pretty darn slow. This years budget is down the tubes. However I have already started on next years budget that I hope will be a little bit bigger.

My 924S has some VW parts ... and i might buy a second one this week ... But I'm guessing that really does not help your deal.

Next year will be better !

Well, I've signed up, so I could see what I'd be getting myself into. Beyond the HPDE classes, is there a "mentor" or someone that would take some time to walk me around their car and talk to me about what it takes to race beyond "wanting to"?

I'd like to start in the CMC/CMC-2 class, but wouldn't be ready until next year ... have a '68 Firebird to resurrect, first.

If there is someone in the Denver area who I could meet up with, that would be great. Sounds like it would be a blast, but maybe having a hard time getting the number of entrants that you'd like to see.

Thanks,
Dave

Sorry I missed your post. No, turnout is disappointing on Wallace's days. 15-20 cars on a good day, 10-12 sometimes. ASR's open track and Time Attack event turnouts are about the same #s, with a lot of cars from AZ.

SWMS and Soren Lorree's days at SMP that I've attended have been better, with more like 30-40 cars, but only 6-8 are HPDE types. Mostly racers.

I've never checked out the S*#A events down here, but I'm bummed that I missed the AutoX at Taos Ski Valley, that must've been fun.

Dave good to see you here, we have had our up's and downs but we have two new cars for sure for next year maybe three which would give a consistent 7 to 8 at most events.

PM me or any of the other AI/CMC guys we would be more than happy to show you around. Actually my car, Tommy's AI car and Shane's CMC car are all out at Tommy's Garage in Parker, that would give you a real clue as to what to expect.

If you're in the Denver area, then Cody, Tommy, Raybob, Shane are probably your best bet for some "pre"-race introductions, etc.

We had great AI/CMC turnout at several of this year's events, but this Sandia weekend, for whatever reason, is proving tough for a lot of folks. If Sandia doesn't happen, Dave Balingit (NASA-RockyMtn head Fred) may offer La Junta on the same weekend. And then we are scheduled for Pueblo in November, weather permitting.

Definitely great to have you in the family. You'll have a great time in CMC.

Well, 20 out of 65 isn't good. Sandia will be removed.

Unfortunatly (or fortunatly), LaJunta won't work for October as it's under repair and they are paving certain sections of the track.

So it's time to resurect the CNS thread. Who's in for a single day of racing and HPDE at CNS? $150 would be the price and we'd do it on Oct 20th.

Or do we just suck it up and wait for Pueblo?

Well, it's at least good to hear that La Junta is getting some work done.

I'm definitely in for CNS! That's pretty close to me, and I've driven it before... it should be a fun event.

I think we should just start Chris out in 1st place, then the contest will be for the rest of us try to dodge all of his parts and other items that fall off during a race. :D

Just got back home. Thanks for trying to get Sandia to work Dave. :(

I think a 3/8 oval would really weed out the field of cake eaters and their preparation level. No better way to trash the bottom end than continuous left turn forces ! I think I'll pass on CNs, as I'm just starting tearing down the POS motor tomorrow, and it's not that enticing to bring the wagon. Cheers

I'm not too worried about it. 944's may be more vulnerable to left turns, but we've survived plenty of lefts before. Besides, we could always petition Dave to let us run clockwise... you know, turn right

I'll be working on getting my car ready... I pulled the head off today and the gasket was blown right where I expected, and ready to blow in about 10 other places too.

for those who've not done an oval before need to at least give it a try. it's a totally different experience and there are many "rovals" out there that you could find yourself on and knowing an oval could be very beneficial.

either way, it's an opportunity for a different type of driving and therefore educational.

i have done ovals and rovals and they are NOT road courses (duh) and i would not trade those experiences as it broadened my experience and knowledge.

Yeah, it's a lot more fun that "just driving around in a circle". The banking makes things fun, and the passing is quite a bit different when you can easily go 3 or 4 cars wide into each turn. I'm looking forward to this event because it will be interesting to have to use some different strategy.

Here's a video of a lap around CNS...
http://www.turbols.net/videos/2005-10-08/Round%202%20-%20Integra%20vs%20180sx.wmv

The lense that was shot with makes the track look smaller than it really is... It's definitely not huge, but I promise that it looks larger from behind the wheel.

yes, thus requiring a different "attitude" :D

It does require some caution, but it's not as easy to run into the wall as it might appear... the banking helps keep you away from it.

I can't make Pueblo, so CNS sounds good to me. I have a couple of Subaru BRATs to pick up in Erie, and I need to stop in for a visit at Checkpoint Racing and Hanksville.

Let's wait till November and have a great season finale at Pueblo. Everybody spend the next 4 weeks working overtime, working on cars, finishing honey-do lists, etc. Spend the next 4 weeks convincing new people to come down to Pueblo for HPDE. November special - sign up a brand new NASA member (no fair begging the local forums:p for newbies who were going to sign up anyways) and get them out in HPDE for 2 days & you'll get 1/2 your own entry fee back. Target co-workers, spouses, friends, people in parking lots, auto-xers, etc.
