I made better time getting home then going to the event.

Knowing weather was coming in to Denver I skipped out on the bar-b-que. I hit snow probably 8 miles before monument hill. It was foggy and pitch black but fortunately the roads had not turned to ice yet and I just had wet roads coming home. It took about 40 minutes from Pueblo to the springs to pick up the rest of my stuff then about 2 hours from the springs to Greeley...avearge about 5 below the speed limit too, so I made damn good time.

We left around 3:45pm today... it was dry in Pueblo, but started to get wet a little North... it was just wet, but everyone was driving like an idiot, causing others to slam on their brakes in a panic. As soon as we got to the top of Monument Hill, we found ice, as well as several crashed cars and State Troopers all over the median and shoulder. It was stop-and-go from there (sometimes stopped for several minutes) until just a couple miles South of Castle rock, as we passed various wrecks, then we were able to roll along at 15 mph until Castle Rock, where we stopped for Pizza Hut and gas around 6:30 pm. Got back on I-25 around 7:45pm and it was better, but still slick and crowded, all the way back to Longmont. Somewhere around south Denver, I noticed a sudden increase in jackass SUV/truck drivers that decided to show off by blowing passed us on ice, at higher than the posted speed limit, while the rest of us were pushing our luck by doing half of that... it was no surprise to find them spun out a mile down the road. Apparently 5000 lbs of momentum at 70 mph isn't so easy to control on ice. The only one I feel sorry for is the Civic that ended up in the side of one of them. After much cursing, I finally got home around 9pm, so it was about 4 hours of driving time for about 145 miles, for an average speed of 36.25 mph.

Well this show off in a 8klb Dodge truck volunteered to trailer a complete stranger's car home on saturday so it took a little longer than normal.

Bruce the driver of one of the white BMW's lost a rod bearing. He just happened to live within a mile or two of me so I offered to tow him home if he could find a trailer. Well he located one in Fowler so we took a little road to trip to get the Uhaul trailer.

Somehow on our way back I/We managed to end up back on to I25 SOUTH of Pueblo  .

Anyway after driving around for a bit we managed to make it back to PMI and load up his broken car and head back to Littleton.

If anyone get's a chance to BS with a fellow named Bruce Kline do. Very interesting guy and pretty cool.

It took us 1.5 hours to get down to Pueblo friday evening. Going home on Sunday took about 2.5-3 hours. Snow and traffic had me in first and second gear much of the way past Colorado Springs. Brutal.

Great weekend though. I'd do it again. ;)

I-25 was a skating rinkfrom Monument to I-70. By time I got to Arvada at 7PM it was almost a whiteout and the Vette would go no further pulling the tire trailer. I was able to get it onto a side street one mile from my home, and my wife came out and pcked me up. I'm geting ready to go back and see if it's still there.

Ah, sure was nice not having to go past Colorado Springs! 1 hour each way from the northeast side of the Springs...

No kidding.

I must have hit the roads just right. I was driving in the snow from just south of monument hill all the way to Greeley but they were just wet. Cruised about 5 mph under the speed limit back and made it in very good time. e-470 may cost money, but it's a godsend.

Sounds like Kevin, Susan, Revkah and I made a good call on Hiway 83 to Franktown! The road was slick and we had a hard time seeing a few times (esp since the clown in front of us had no running lights ) but we made excellent time and saw no accidents.

There was the one truck who stopped going up a hill and was waving us to go around on a 2 lane hiway - yeah right!

Two Corvettes, both towing race-tire trailers, numbers still on the doors, driving in a snow storm. We saw lots of this:

2 hours down, 4 back. Ran into stopped trafic at Monument, spent the next 1.5 hrs getting over the hill. At about Castle Rock the speed increased from 5 to 20-30 and stayed there the rest of the way. Lots of spin outs on I-25 and C-470. Just glad I did not join them. Most people were pretty good and did not fly by me, although a lot did. I was hoping it was because they were also being safe, and not because they wanted to see me send the Vette into a ditch ;)
