After reviewing the June 2008 CCR I was looking to see what SFI rating for shoes and socks is required (I dont have either) for CMC. The CCR didnt have a minimum rating for either. So, is there a requirement or a preferred rating I should get?

nomex socks are required (for racing) and all leather, suede or nomex shoes are required.

So if I go to saferacer.com and browse the shoes department I can pretty much pick the cheapest ones I can find?

There is no certification requirement for shoes, so you have a lot of options, but there are benefits to having true racing shoes. I found a pair of Simpson low-top shoes at a pretty good sale price last year, so I gave them a try and am glad that I did... they're very comfortable in and out of the car, gives you good feel of the pedals, and they're an extra layer of fire protection.
They're like $100 normally, but I want to say I got mine for around $60 last year on sale. http://www.saferacer.com/simpson-lowtop-racing-shoes.html?productid=1016

G-Force is the best bang for the buck in alot of areas. Shoes/Appearal/Helmets/ and restraints...

If you do that, be aware that some of the shoes on their site (at least some of the Piloti ones) don't have a Nomex liner, and may not pass tech (or at least might not be as safe in case of fire). They designate which are which in their print catalog, but don't appear to make it as obvious on their site (although if I remember correctly, the Piloti shoes that are in the 'racing' line have Nomex, and those in the 'touring' line don't).
If in doubt, give them a call...they're very helpful.

Yeah, definitely. Most of my stuff is G-Force and I've been happy with it.

I wore wrestling shoes when I first started, and they worked great. Thin sole, flexible, etc. Something to consider.
Eventually bought Simpson driving shoes, high-top.

Found some SFI rated shoes for $55 and nomex socks for $19 I think. As far as the underwear, does the shirt have to be long sleeve or can I get a short sleeve?

Actually, if your suit meets the CCRs, I don't think nomex underwear is required...

My suit is a 3-2A/1 which requires the underwear to meet the CCR for competition racing. I've thought about getting a 3-2A/5 which doesnt require the underwear. Looks like a I can get the 3-2A/5 for $249.

If you are required to have underwear (i.e. only a 3-2A/1 suit) it must be full length.

If you have an FIA rated suit (Sparco Sprint 5), i assume you need no nomex underwear correct?
