What is the scope of NASA’s Competition School?
To provide the student a thorough understanding of NASA’s racing, safety and administrative procedures as outlined in the Club Codes and Regulations as well as practical on-track exercises to introduce real-world racing situations.

Who can attend Competition School?
Competition School is very well suited for drivers transitioning from HPDE to wheel-to-wheel racing! Students who started out in HPDE1 and have reached HPDE4 are considered experienced enough to proceed into Comp School. Some students may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Competition School Directors based on prior experience and ability.

Competition School also serves as a great refresher for current Rookies as well as drivers with prior racing history that wish to get back into a race car and get up to speed quickly with NASA’s competition format!

How do I signup?

Enter as Competition School. The price includes both Saturday and Sunday. Do not register in a specific race group, but please let the competition school director know in which race class you plan to participate.

What forms do I need and what do I do with them?
For new racers, you will need the following forms:
* Provisional Competition License application (http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/rules-forms/form_provisional_license.pdf)
* Medical Examination form (http://www.nasaproracing.com/images/rules-forms/form_medical.pdf)
* A copy of your driver's license
* A check for the appropriate fee ($65 for 2008.)

Complete these forms and mail them to your Regional Director (dave@NasaRockyMountain.com) three weeks prior to your scheduled Competition School.

For drivers with prior racing history:
Please review sections 13 and 14 in the Club Codes and Regulations (http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf) to determine the proper forms required. If you have any questions, please contact Chuck Taylor (svochuck) or David Dirks (dmdirks).

What equipment do I need?
The driver as well as the car used in the school must comply with all safety and other requirements as outlined in section 15 of the Club Codes and Regulations. A NASA technical inspector must also certify the race car and your race car will need a vehicle logbook. This can be done at the track, but it is advised that you get it done well in advance in case there are any issues that need to be fixed.

How should I prepare for Competition School?
You must read and understand all aspects of the Club Codes and Regulations (http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/ccr.pdf) prior to Competition School. Otherwise, be prepared to have a blast!

What will we do in Comp School?
A Comp School weekend typically begins with a Friday evening classroom session starting around 6:00pm. Students will review pertinent aspects of the CCR which will include detailed examples, video and open discussions. A written exam will follow. Saturday will be spent in the driver’s seat for various on-track exercises, including:
* Defensive line entry and off-line driving
* Driving through corners side by side
* Passing situations in a competition environment
* Practice starts (standing and rolling) and sprint races

On Sunday students will participate in the normal race schedule under observation by the Comp School directors.

Can you lend any advice to be successful?

Bring someone to help you with the car. Since you will be busy in classroom sessions, there will be little time to work on your car.
