According to the welcome letter, Saturday/Sunday tech at track will now cost $20
Please note that Saturday/Sunday “at track” tech will cost $20
Also in the Welcome letter, it states that Friday tech and registration will be available from 3-7 PM. Is this correct, and will Friday tech cost anything?
Not that I disagree with the $20, I just want to make sure before I show up, since while the closest tech shop for me is closer than 60 miles, I do live out in the country of eastern Colorado Springs, and it is about a 45 minute drive to the tech shop, that I don't want to make, if I don't have to, so I would rather get free tech at the track on Friday

Hi, Dave. The "late fee" for having your car inspected for HPDE at the track is new for us, this season. The purpose is to encourage drivers to go to the authorized tech inspection shops prior to the race weekend, to expedite the inspection process at the track. Last year we had several instances when many HPDE drivers had to wait in long lines to have their cars inspected. This makes it stressful for drivers who need to go to driver meetings and want to finish prepping their cars. Pls note that the late fee does NOT apply to race car tech inspections.
The late fee will not apply to HPDE inspections performed at the track on Friday.
Per the CCR, we will waive the $20 fee for drivers who live more than 60 miles from an authorized inspection shop; we just need to know ahead of time. So, consider us notified. :)
I plan to be at the track around midday on Friday and can perform HPDE and race car inspections then. If you see my black Excursion around the corner from the tech trailer, that means I'm there and ready to inspect!

Dave, head down to Revolutions Performance after work, they're an authorized HPDE Tech shop. Take Nevada to Vermijo, turn right (east) onto Vermijo until it dead ends and follow the sign to Revolutions Performance. Matt and Adam will take care of ya! My 944 is there.

Hank, I fully agree with the tech fee, as I have seen the long lines for tech at the track (and been in them!!!) Also, looking at other NASA regions, it looks like the $20 fee for at track tech is pretty common. I certainly don't have any heartburn with it.
I don't live 60 miles, so I don't really qualify, but I do live in the country, and, like I said, it is about 45-60 minutes to Revolutions Performance (the closest shop), as CJ mentioned.
I'll try and get it done beforehand, but if not, I will be there Friday. No Saturday morning tech for me!
Thanks for the quick reply, both of you

Good question and I think Hank's answer sums it up. I know people get "busy" during the week but it seems like some were just getting a bit lax knowing we would "take care of them".
Cars can be tech'ed as early as you would like. 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, etc.
We are ALWAYS looking for new tech shops to add to our list. If there happens to be automotive shops in outer lying areas (Payton, GrandJunction, Limon, Kansas, Wyoming, etc) please have them contact us and we can get them setup!!!
Dave as soon as you have gotten your TT license we can do a TT only logbook for your car and you can get an annual inspection.

That was my plan. Got to get the license first, though!

Okay am I reading this right:
HPDE needs to tech before the event or HPDE/TT needs to tech before the event?
That seems like quite a bit of effort for a perfectly stock HPDE car that will take all of 30 seconds to pass tech. Or if it's only the TT people, then obviously I won't worry about it.

HPDE and TT need to tech before the event, or else the cost is $20. Hank is right, there have been some long lines at the tech stations on past events.

this applies to all hpde AND tt cars:
it may be a "perfectly stock" car, but it is the condition of several items that need to be tech'd. things wear out/down and need replacement (brake pads, brake fluid, wheel hubs, leaks, etc). tech is a quick check that the basics are taken care of, the ultimate responsibility is the car owner/driver. it takes more than 30 seconds to tech the car and when you have several lined up on saturday morning (before the driver's meeting) it takes a few minutes on each car to go over the checklist. we don't have the manpower or time to do it saturday morning (especially now that there are more free tech inspection places).
please note: the driver's meeting starts promptly at 8am, missing/being late cause your car is in tech is not a valid reason for missing/being late for the driver's meeting. if this is to happen the odds are a participant will miss their first track session.
safety is paramount (and worth the "quite a bit of effort"), that means if one car is unsafe, it puts all participants at risk should there be a problem on track with others around. think of your own safety as well as the others when thinking about the tech'ing of your car.
