View Full Version : Anybody want to run a 3 hour "night" enduro?

One of the possible scenarios for Pueblo is to do a 3 hour enduro on Saturday from 6pm - 9pm. One, two or three drivers. Your choice.

Since Pueblo in July can be hot, what better time to be racing than when the sun goes down?

We'd need to have about 20 cars committed to do it.

Let's start a poll and see if it's worth looking at!!! If you are viewing this as a guest (i.e. can't vote), send me an email with a yea/ney.

That would be awesome. I wouldn't be able to use my car, but I would drive someone else's (if I fit into it). :D

I voted yes and would love to do it, but then again I'm not so keen on someone else driving the Evo.

I _might_ let Rick drive it if he's on my team, hah.

Is this just a "fun" thing or a real race? Would you have to have a NASA racing license? What about HPDE students? Just curious cause 20 cars with 2-3 drivers is somewhere between 40-60 people and we only had about 15 people in group 4 at the last Pueblo event.

The Original post says that you can have 1 2 or 3 drivers, your choice so if people don't want others driving there cars they can run it  solo:eek:, I don't know 3 hours isn't that bad:)

Rick

you could fit if you really, really wanted to ;)

i might give it a try if i can find an appropriate co-driver or two (that fit :) ).

for those who haven't raced, this is not as easy as you may think. the concentration level is higher than running hpde and WILL wear you out far sooner than you might imagine. concentration is easy to lose and that's when mistakes happen and things go bad.

I was absolutely bushed after my 3rd 20 minute session on a cool day out there.

3 hours of straight driving would be insane!

Would I love to do this? Absolutely. Do I think HPDE 1/2 and possibly 3 have the skills necessary to do it safely (this includes me)? I'm not thinking so.

At least not for an enduro anyway. Perhaps a normal session but not for 3 hours.

I could be wrong though. I would like to hear all the instructors thoughts on it. I'm sure it would be a great learning experiance.

I guess if I was going to do it, I'd call dibs on Kevin and Scott for teammates. Maybe I'll see what my car can REALLY do then.

Hmmm... I had more or less figured it would be wheel to wheel racing. Comp licenses, full race car safety etc.

We have done 1/2 day test and tunes for HPDE4 which we call "open track", but nothing ever at night. Not out of the question though... There would be certain logistics to having it, and it would not be open to 1-3 students (hard for instructors to evaluate when they can't see them;)).

hhhhmmmmmmmmmm.................i'm wonder if i could put aerodynamic lanters on the race car for night driving? :)

ah, I'm sure they wouldn't have any more drag than the factory splitter flapping around all over the place!

There really aren't too many options for this though is there?

You haven't seen his "race car" yet. I've heard stories of pieces falling off of it, but it wasn't a splitter. :D

wait, so you're telling me there's a different "race car?" The mustang he had out at PMI looked pretty race to me!!!

unlike the stock r front end, mine has been reinforced to support the carbon fiber splitter (which doesn't flap) unlike the stock splitter which i don't use anymore.

you mean the aerodynamic brick? it will be at mmp, lajunta, and pueblo, assuming all the peices stay where they belong.

I had a feeling you likely had one of those carbon fiber splitters. Quality piece, that's for sure.

I don't see my stock 99 cobra ever going fast enough around a road course to ever need the splitter so I'm good there.

I do here with a properly reinforced splitter and the R wing they teh 00R's are extreamly stable at high speed.

Well, I don't have a race car at the moment for an enduro. However, I would really like to have an hour or two for HPDE4 + to run after dark.

Perhaps if we ran a race till 9:00pm, we could chase it with a HPDE4+ run group from 9:30-11:30pm so experienced people could get a taste for night driving without the pressure of a race.

What do you all think??

Wow, I really like that idea! I've always wanted to run around a track at night. More motivation to fix my broken car... (the damn clutch went out last night, to add to the already expensive list of things that I need to fix)

Heyyyyy! I was wondering if you were ever going to post on here. I never got the chance to go over and talk to you about your car. You were definitely dedicated to truck your car back to Limon last Saturday and come back for Sunday runs. Good Job!!!!http://www.coloradoneons.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/023.gif And when you came back that thing was rockin' http://www.coloradoneons.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_super.gif
