Time trials or wheel to wheel racing?

Time Trials - Use the calculator: http://www.nasa-tt.com/rules.php

Wheel to Wheel - Super Unlimited

we have not decided yet...

mmm.... as far as the open wheel in the super unlimited class. what do you need to win. fully prepped chassis, huge slicks, and big horse....

To win in SU with a Miata?

http://www.flyinmiata.com/projects/dog.asp

Since SU is a catch all class, you are up against some serious competition.

Now... if you can find 4-5 other people interested in tossing a turbo kit onto a SpecMiata and creating a class - we can create SSM (Super Spec Miata??)

That's only an additional ~$3500 to get 170-175 rwhp. Nationally competitive Spec Miata guys are throwing down $5-8k to get 120rwhp.

Anybody? Thoughts? I might do it....

Unless you have past w2w racing experience you'll end up going through the time trial program before you are ready to race anyways, so that works.

I still enjoy all three (hpde, tt and w2w).

My point total comes out as TTD on the car I am building ... what kind of competition is in TTD?

We are setting up 2-3 tech shops that will be spread throughout the area. These shops will be able to issue logbooks and do annual inspections.

For classes that require certified dyno sheets, I'm also creating a list of locations. Best bet is setting up a dyno day in a central location that has a DynoJet 248. RayBob, you interested in getting something setup for an AI/CMC dyno day?

Check out some of the results from SoCal's 2005 season: http://socal.nasa-tt.com/id7.html

There's a WIDE variety in the TTD results: TransAm, Miata, 328i, S2000, CRX, Mustang, etc.

Okay here's another odd entry. I tried using the calculator but obviosuly that's not going to work in this situation.

I plan on running my 1969 Firebird as well as my 1999 Cobra. The Cobra is pretty cut and dry as far as class goes as it will be a minor bolt-on car + tires.

The Firebird on the otherhand...
Here's the specs.

Engine/Drivetrain:
455 Transplant from original 350.
Stock TH400 with 3000rpm stall
Stock 10 bolt with posi carrier, 3.73 gear (original fina ration unknown)

Suspension:
Delrin bushings on stock upper and lower control arms with modified geometry (Guldstrand mod).
Bilstein HD shocks with 850 lb/in AFCO coils with hidden adjusters.
Hotchkis 1 1/4" hollow front sway bar.
4 wheel disc brakes with Hawk HPS pads.
Custom built rear leafs 350 lb/in rate, 2-3" lowering.

Body:
DSE Sub-frame connectors
DSE Aluminum body/core support mounts.

That's pretty much all of it. The car doesn't really have any weight reduction but will likely get a set of sport seats for better support.

I'm assuming this will belong in a modified class, but which one? All the information I've seen is more geared towards late model cars.

If you are serious about running the car in TimeTrials, we will get it classified. Older cars are handled on a case by case basis as there is a considerable amount of work required to find the right class.

For wheel to wheel racing, I'd like to point out that the car would be eligible for American Iron as well :) http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/American-Iron-Rules.pdf

Mostly likely just Time Trials and even that may be a season or so away yet as I need seat time.

I wouldn't likely have to go to an aftermarket sub-frame with modern geometry and a 4 link to be competitive in American Iron.
