View Full Version : Someone got a new exhaust!

Here's a 944 exhaust that a customer picked up today. We used 2.5" 304 SS, all TIG-welded, reused his cat (easily removeable for racing use), and used the same type of Magnaflow muffler that Chris has. We started right at the Y-pipe to give him as much flow as possible. We kept the pipe fairly close (2.5" or so?) to the halfshaft to give him more ground clearance.
At first I had the tip sticking out even with the bumper pad but then I remembered how much abuse those pads take, and moved the tip inward. The exhaust hangs pretty solid under there, so it should hold up to the intensity of 944-Spec racing.
So, whose car is this? :)

that looks really good hank. Guess I wont have the only good sounding exhaust in the field.
Get those rear shocks attached Dillon!

Yeah, I can see that's a late motor. Dillon was my guess.

It looks and sounds great, I'm very glad Hank is around to offer us his services. :) Because I chose to keep the cat, it's not as loud as your car Chris, and maybe a little less throaty-sounding, but the note is very similar...I like it! Oh, and I'm going to attach the shocks ASAP, but so far I haven't found a bolt that will work, or a die kit big enough to re-thread the existing bolt...anyone got a die for a 14mm 1.5 pitch bolt?

i thought mine were stripped too Dillon but really they just require ALOT of muscle to get in. I had to do my jack extension leverage trick to re tighten so I wonder if that's just the case with you.

I'm pretty sure this one isn't going in...there is like one thread at the tip, then three threads worth of smooth metal. I might be able to muscle it in, but I don't think so, the bolt just turns in the hole and won't bite into the threads. I'm going to check Ace Hardware tonight as well as Fastenal and see if they have anything similar...

Dillon, definitely try Ace first. They had the tap Gary and I needed for his car. I think that was a 12x1.5 though. Fastenal will have something but it will take a day or two to get in. Also, there are online sources to get these. Either way, try to get an Irwin or Hanson tap as these are pretty nice and use lots of drilling oil or WD40 every half turn or so.

I did check Ace for a tap/die, I went to two locations and neither had one bigger than 11m. Harbor Freight had a kit with the right one in it but it was $90, and probably cheaply made. Thanks for the tip though!

Do NOT get the set from Harbor Freight or Tool King....don't ask how I know! :(
You want Irwin part #1750 (full list here (http://www.irwin.com/irwin/consumer/jhtml/detail.jhtml?prodId=IrwinProd100424)) so maybe you can call different Ace locations instead of driving around. You might also be able to use that part number at Fastenal too.

Tool King off W. 6th Ave. carries a bunch of Irwin products as well.

Yeah, I should have specified...the "cheap" kits at Harbor Freight and Tool King are junk. The metal is cheap and the edges aren't cleaned up.

Well, no worries, Ace had a bolt that worked. Woohoo! Now I just need to get the darn thing on track...
