I'm actually using a PS3, but I don't think it matters much. I hope to see Gary, Dillon and CJ... Who else are we missing?

Well, you had both and had problems connecting with the PS3 the first time around. Did you get them resolved last time?

Weston

Now that we know how to get GT4 networked on the PS2/PS3 (ie always start from fresh reboot), it shouldn't take too long to get a game going.

Anyway, I plan to be there and I'll bring an ethernet switch or two, some Cat-5e cables, and a DHCP host.

Dillon

Count me in. I'll bring 360 with Forza 2 and Grid, and if I can acquire a network adapter between now and then I'll bring my PS2 / GT4 also.

You are correct, I have both and have successfully connected them to our LANs. I might bring the PS3 again so I have options to play something other than GT4.

Why aren't these posts showing up on the "recent posts" section on the main page? I haven't gotten any email updates either... Dave? Maybe it's user error.

Anyone else joining us this Sunday?

Anyone?

The PS2 Slim I borrowed is no longer available. My Friend sold it to get a PS3. So, I don't have a console to play GT4 on anymore. I do have a PS3 and GT5-Prologue though... but I think Joel and I are the only ones.

CJ

Your PS3 will work on the LAN. I have a slim PS2 that I can bring for you if you like - just let me know. You'll need to bring a copy of GT4 is all. .

I can bring my copy of GT4 since I'm an Xbox360/Forza2 snob now! :D

There were 2 versions of the PS3... one that has the PS2 EE Engine that plays and reads PS2 games, and one that doesn't. My PS3 does not play PS2 games. :( So.... I would need the whole set-up, minus the TV and Wheel.

Dillon

Well, I can't find a network adapter anywhere. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but as I recall, we couldn't get Joel's PS3 working on the network before...so it looks like we'll all be switching around games. This is probably for the best though, seeing as how there was a ton of lag with six people playing GT4.

Weston

We got GT4 going on the PS3 when we were at Dave B's house... you just have to reboot it like you do the PS2's.

Hahaha, I almost responded when you left me off the first time! ;) My copy is already in the box and will be there on Sunday so you're all set.

Yep, I 'll bring you the console. It's up to you to supply the rest. :)

edit: I invited a friend too, but he'll likely flake out and not show. If he does show, then we may have another PS2/GT4 in the mix.

Awesome, thanks guys! Yeah, I'll bring everything else to make it work (TV, Table, Chair, Pillow for my ass, Wheel, Power Strip, CAT-5). I'll bring the PS3 also in case anyone wants to try GT5/Prologue.

Thanks everyone for coming that was a total blast! And with four on GT4 and four on Forza2 it seemed to work out pretty nicely! See you all in a month and don't forget to chime in on the main thread (http://www.nasarockymountain.com/nasa_forums/showthread.php?t=2578) about where to have the next meeting (Feb 8th).

I’m attaching a few pictures taken from some of the Forza 2 races that we had yesterday. Enjoy!

That looks like Road America in the fourth shot. Is that correct ? I might have to look at trying Forza someday

Snymo
01-12-2009, 01:46 PM
First pic is Sebring.
Second is Silverstone.
The rest are Road America.

Nice pics Gary. I take it these are from the replays you saved? Can we convert them to internet viewable format? That would be cool (or not depending on how we each drove that race! :D )

GaryM05

Yes, those shots are from some the replays I saved off. There are several other replays from yesterday that I haven’t looked at yet that might also have some good shots in them – if so, I’ll post them up.

I don’t know if there’s a way to save off a whole replay for viewing outside of the game – I’ll see if I can find out if there’s a way to convert at least one camera angle from a replay to something like a .wmv or .mpg file. There was definitely a lot of high-speed action in the replays (especially from some of the angles in the Road America cameras), and it would definitely be nice if they were viewable from outside of the game.

Cullen – let us know if you decide to pick up a 360 and Forza 2. In addition to the LAN multiplayer, it also has solid online multiplayer functionality (via an Xbox Live subscription) that we could use to set up some online racing sessions in addition to the LAN gatherings. It’s not quite the same as racing someone who is sitting right next to you, but the in-game voice functionality works well over the included headset & mic, and it’s a lot easier than hauling everything around and setting it up for a day of racing. Not to mention the fact that you don’t have to be local to Denver/Colorado Springs to join the fun!

GaryM05

After some research, it looks like the only way to make the Forza replays viewable outside of the game is to use a video capture utility to capture them onto a PC while they're been played on the TV. Unfortunately, I don't have any video capture hardware, so I don't think that I'll be able to upload those replays. It's possible that I might be able to borrow something from a friend that could help with this, but I'm not sure.

I did take a few more pictures from some of the other replays, though, and I'm attaching them below.

Nice pics Gary, thanks!!! :D

Ok, who can name the tracks?
First two are ______________
Thrid is ____________
Last two are _____________

The first two and the third are real track, but the last two is a fictional track so only people that play Forza will get this one.

I 'll take a stab at that:

1&2 = Mugello
3 = Road Atlanta or Nurbergring
4&5 = Maple Valley

Am I close?

Snymo
01-13-2009, 10:49 AM
Joel,

1/2 = No
3 = No and No
4/5 = Yes

Dillon

Nice pics! Thanks again to Peak for hosting. We had some pretty close racing. In the beginning that is...after lunch I started feeling really exhausted and found myself way behind. Although, the last races were also good. (Pics on this page are all from those races.) Did anyone save the replay of our lap around the 'ring? I remember some funny moments.

I think I'm going to have to get a network adapter for PS2. I like Forza a lot, but GT4 was more fun I think...the cars are more equal, and a lot easier to control. With the 360 wheel at least, it's much more difficult to control cars in Forza, especially the high HP, rwd cars on street tires. CJ can attest to that :p

Bottoz
01-14-2009, 03:50 PM
Oh yeah... I was all over the place! Forza looks sooooo good though. Argh, I need more money for toys. I'd love to get a 360/Wheel/Portable Flat Screen.
