Just wanted to say hi. I live in Utah and with the new track wanted to finally move from Kart Racing to Cars. I am 34 married with 3 children. I have decided to build an 86 Firebird I have sitting here into an American Iron class race. I would love to also travel around to various tracks once the build is done. I am now doing my research and trying to find AI and AIX Racers here in utah and the rest of the Rocky Mountain region to pick their brains. Any way I will post on the progress as things go. Currently I am in the strip down phase.

Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
I was just in Utah and you didn't come over and pick my brain????
Let me know if you need any help with anything, I used to race a 3rd gen Camaro in SCCA American Sedan.

I was in Vegas playing when the races were going on here. Maybe lucky for you, cause I would have been in your ear asking questions all day :D I have hit the net and boards pretty hard the last few days and came up with some places to start. so I will start my build thread tonight. My goal is this year is to build and work towards my liscense. I am hoping to get the car prepped for a custom cage in the next few weeks.

Does AI allow for a traditional poncho powerplant?

Because a destroked 455 would be my choice for a road race application in an older firebird.

I would use a IO Port cage they are the lightest and the cheapest. You can ask me questions all day. thats cool...

AI has a power to weight ratio of 9.5 to 1 so you could build a Poncho Motor but chevy power is cheaper...
Aren't you a Time Trial Guy? Why don't you come race AI????

Thanks,
I am a member of that site. I have plans for a twin turbo pro-touring 71 Camaro, however I have not really started that build yet.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes.....

I'm an HPDE'r right now...working my way up. Unfortunately with school I haven't been able to attend all the events I was hoping for. I'm young yet so I've got plenty of time.

I'd love to get in to AI though

Well lets get you wheel to wheel with us in AI.
Whats it gonna take? Will you be at LaJunta?
Whats a track whore? What class is pro-touring?
I would run the new mustang you have in AI and use somethin else to get the groceries.

Wow 20 questions...

What will it take to get me to AI? Time and money my friend. Something that is kind of at a premium right now being in college.

Will I be at LaJunta. No. I had just about registered when I discovered wheel damage that is unacceptable for track use. New Wheels are on order but unfortunately will not arrive in time for the LaJunta event.

What's a track whore? My lame attempt at creating a open track ready mustang...which really means it's pretty much stock. I am upgrading tires and adding stiffer springs (which should arrive today) but I want to progress with the car as I progress in skill.

Pro-Touring isn't a class as much as an ideal. The premis behind pro-touring is to take old metal (see 1969 Firebird) and build the car in a fashion that makes it worthy for open track use. It's based loosely off the old Trans Am cars (Sunoco Camaro etc). Though cars like Big Red helped define the style.

The mustang doesn't run to get grocerie...that's what the daily beater Tacoma is for.

Big Red is the Baddest Camaro ever built.
