FIRE!
While Dave is in Colorado, my son helped me remove Dave's front lower control arm bushings. My wife came home in the middle of the action and wondered why I was setting fire to Pumpkin parts.

Sweet!
We have to set fire to the rear spring plate bushings on the 944 to get them off...it's not a small task. On Michelle's car I may decide to not remove the bushings & just let the whole car go up. :D
where are the marshmallows and smoores?

Haven't you set enough things on fire? :)

I'm no metallurgist, so, is there a concern of weakening the metal?

Kerrek has "that look" in his eye that worries me :)
Are the control arms gonna have that burnt in smell and look when installed in the car?

That's close to what I thought when I saw what appears top be a cast aluminum piece sitting on a bed of charcoal in an aluminum wheel. I hope that wheel was already trash. After all, we're just trying to burn out the rubber bits, not become backyard blacksmiths. :D
I'm not concerned at all about the heavy stamped steel control arms on the Pumpkin. The control arms never got too warm to pick up and the heat never go hot enough to bother the sway bar bushings or rubber boot around the lower ball joint. Al that stuff is getting replaced anyway.

We tried the drill-out method first, but that rubber was so stuck to the walls of the bushing shell, that it preferred to tear rather than pull away from the shell. I don't think there was enough bushing integrity left after that to use an air hammer on it. I'll have to try that on the next set if they are that stubborn.

I noticed that look too.
The arms will be better than the shiny expensive new ones in the catalogs at 1/4 the price when we're done with them.
so scott, you can't get your son a proper set of gloves?;) :D

Gloves would get in the way of mining for booger nuggets.
