As Kevin would say, "Good track weather" is in store for this weekend. That covers a wide range of possibilities, so click HERE (http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=39.73887436009367&lon=-103.89015197753906&site=bou&smap=1&marine=0&unit=0&lg=en) to see the latest National Weather Service 'point-and-click' forecast for the track location.

Friday and Friday night will be breezy cool and wet. Bring your rain tires and rain gear.
Saturday may still have some lingering dampness, but won't be quite as cool and won't have as much wind.
Sunday will be fantastic! Bring sunscreen.

EDIT: Overnight lows will be right around freezing...so keep that antifreeze in the race cars.

you betchya :D

it makes no difference what the weather is - we drive on the streets in it - so why not "improve" our street skills by learning technique on the track :D

besides - track time is TRACK TIME :D

I'm going to love whatever the track conditions happen to be this weekend :D

I'm just not very well equipped for towing in the snow :o I don't think that's going to be a concern this trip though.

Edit: I may have to withdraw that last statement...D'oh !

This reminds me of last years' opening weekend, HPDE might like to have some all-seasons or summer tires with lots of tread.

You kidding me ;) I was finally going to take the winter/studded tires off today. Maybe I should track with those (I kid... I kid...:p )

Weather isn't looking too good for those of south of the Palmer Divide. Predicting heavy snow all day Friday - 3-6"; with another 3-6" overnight. Supposed to clear out by mid morning on Sat.

My current plan is to drive up there from the Springs Friday Evening. Leave the trailer/car at the track, and stay in the area. If the weather is too bad, they'll shut down the highway at Monument hill.

If that happens, I might head east, around the divide, and come in through Limon. Although, my luck with Rt 24 has never been that good ;)

The bottom line is, we might not be there at 0800 Saturday AM. We'll just have to wing it and see how it goes.

Same dilemma. I was planning on leaving early on Saturday Morning to get there around 6:30am. Hmmm.... dang snow! I just put on Summer Tires on the MINI too!

*edit* Just got the last hotel room at the Longhorn in Byers!

I have a 10ph snowblower and a 125hp car. If I could merge the two under the new spec rule changes I might kick some ass this weekend.

I still have Blizzaks on the 944, so I'm good to go if it snows -- provided I can get a windshield installed tomorrow :)

Snow tires ? Where's the fun in that :D I'm running Toyo's no matter what's on the ground.

Yep, I guess this is a good time for so many of us to have newly-purchased-for-the-season full tread R-888's! Though, it would be interesting to see what a 944 on snow tires could do against some of the typically-faster GTS cars, with the open tire rule that class has.

24+ over Monument Hill? Geez... Might have to take the Tahoe instead of the MINI. I think the long way out to Limon might be a better route. See y'all at the track!

Spring racing in the Rocky Mountains!
Dave, you may have to start an early season snow rally series!

It's looking interesting along the I-25 urban corridor. I may dispatch my family half a day early so they have a better go of getting to the motel near DIA during daylight hours on Friday.

ACCUMULATIONS OVER THE URBAN CORRIDOR WILL RANGE FROM 10 TO 24 INCHES...WITH LESSER AMOUNTS HEADING EASTWARD INTO THE PLAINS.
SNOW WILL DIMINISH SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

I just found out that they think we might get stuck in the field for work tomorrow and have to pull a 48 hour alert. If that happens I won't even get back to base until the afternoon on Sunday... :(
I REALLY hope that doesn't happen.

You all are too pessimistic.

Saturday says "New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible." I read this as, "No snow is possible."

New Tag Line for HPR -

Welcome to Dry Plains Raceway!!! Where every single freaking weekend since opening has gotten snow and or rain.

that is funny...at least Sunday is looking nice for those who are getting lots of white stuff today! I am packing extra layers and my thermals so all will be good.

MHISSTC

Byers is right on the dividing line between big snow or no snow. Either way, one important thing to remember is that the ground temperatures are still above freezing. Any snowfall that does accumulate and doesn't melt as it falls will be on the ground for only a relatively short time. If need be, get a few tow rigs out on the track and turn the snow to slush...then water...and then get the cars back out there.

Click on the camera for Monument Hill.

We'll be staying home tonight. I could make it if I really had to. But, towing a trailer in that mess is just too risky. Too much to lose, and nothing to gain.

We'll see you Saturday afternoon.

Well they let us trip out today and I'm underground right now. Hopefully I get releived tomorrow and I can make it down (last I checked, both 85 south and I-25 are closed). If I end up stuck out here, should I just post here or email somebody if I can't make it? I don't think I can really call.

I just got the message about the delayed start for Saturday morning right before we headed out from our DIA motel to the track. I posted my travel comments about our trip in last night from Goodland, KS in another thread.

New schedule here:
http://www.nasarockymountain.com/nasa_forums/showthread.php?t=2932

We're here (in Colorado) and we're ready to go...once we chip off the several inches of accumulated slush from the cars on the open trailers.
