View Full Version : Car number sizes?
Anyone know what size numbers are needed on the side of the cars? I'd like to get a set of magnatic numbers but want to make sure I get the right size.

I believe it's 10 inches or taller.

10 inches or larger is correct. Also make sure that the numbers are a contrasting color to the vehicle. Also the number should not be metallic, iridescent, or reflective as it can make them difficult to read. Besides it is specifically stated as prohibited in the CCR. If you need a copy of the rules you can get it in PDF form from the website. www.nasaproracing.com

I don't know about size rqmts in other groups, but in CMC, the numbers need to be 16" tall, "placed near the center of both doors." Also, numbers are required on the front and rear of the car, minimum 4" tall.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to keep looking for some 10" magnetic numbers.

its interesting I found some conflicting rules on this subject, here is the rule from the Time Trial rules
9.1 Numbers and Class Designation
All NASA TT cars must display a three-digit number on both sides and the rear of the car unless
a one or two digit number has been permanently assigned to that vehicle by NASA TT
administration. Numbers must be of a contrasting color to the car or otherwise clearly visible, at
least 8-inches high with a 1.5-inch stroke for the sides, and four inches high for the rear. NASA
TT cars must also display a class designation on both sides and the rear of the car in a four-inch
height in contrasting color to the car. Class Designations shall be TT followed by the group
number. For example, an A Group competitor would display “TTA” as a class designation.
So this says only 8" but then in the CCR under HPDE rules it says;
11.4.15 Car Numbers
The vehicle should exhibit its assigned car number (if any) on both sides of the car. The
numbers must be at least ten (10) inches tall and be of a contrasting color. No numbers
may be placed on the side windows. Numbers on the front or rear of the car are
recommended but not required. Metallic numbers, and numbers having iridescent
and/or reflective properties, are prohibited.
most other orgs seem to require 9" wich would be the differance between the 2 above rules :p
Im working on numbers now and on my E36 there is only about 9.5" between the molding and the body line where a magnetic # will work so I will be limited to about 9" on the number itself. (actually best place is just behind the door)
Anyway maybe someone needs to clarify, seems silly that HPDE would have a larger requirement than TT.
