So if you haven't heard, there are plans for a new club race track near the Front Range Airport (south of Denver International Airport). This track will be considered a replacement for the Second Creek Raceway that is scheduled to close in November. It could be opened as early as Spring of 2007. The main backer on this project will be Sutton International Motorsports, an affiliate of Centrix Financial (the same company who runs the Denver Grand Prix). News about the track is officially being posted on the http://www.camplaps.org site.

I wanted to open up this thread to discuss the new track - rumors, news, progress, problems, etc. I'd like to see what else we, as track enthusiasts, can do to help support the effort.

Speaking of new tracks, here's a clip from the east side of Miller Motor Sports Park. This is the technical side - I hear the west side will be wicked fast.

This track has been a logn time in the making. TOO long to be truthfull. Now that financial backing has been established that is a definite step in the right direction. I just hope it doesn't become a high priced low yeild track like Bandimere has become.

However I think with who is providing the funding this could be a very nice track. I'd like to see a pretty fast track more than a really technical track. With elevation changes. Most of the tracks around these parts are pretty flat it seems.

ok. i admit confusion here.

is the centrix supported track different from miller? does this mean there may be two new tracks in our future? would another new track (not that one has been announced) get lost in the shuffle?

Here's everything "new" in the area that I'm aware of:

Miller Motor Sports - SLC
www.millermotorsportspark.com

The "centrix" track - Denver
www.camplaps.org

Motorsports Park Hastings - Hastings, NE
www.racemph.com

They are all being designed by Alan Wilson.

So Miller Motorsports park is the new one near SLC then. Miller is also the owner of CDR from my understanding.

The CAMP track planned near Front Range Airport "could" be completed by spring of 07 but I'll believe that when I see it.

do you all think there is room for a "country club" style track/setup in this area? similar to the autobahn model.

I went to dinner with my Father last week while he was in town and he's claiming something that resembles an open track is going up near Centennial Airport. Claimes he walks out of his hanger facing east and it's right there to the south a bit.

Anybody heard anything along these lines? The CAMP track is supposed to be going up near Front Range airport.

Unfortunately (for us full sized racers) the track going in at Centennial is for go-karts.

Here's the scoop: http://www.thetrack.us/

However with it so close, I may need to go buy a kart....:D

Is there room? I think there is. Is there somebody (or a group) willing to put up the $$ for it? Maybe. If I had the $$, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Would you consider the track at Aspen to fit this model?

The Autobahn track is a good example. The new track at Hastings is being built (somewhat) under this model. Motorsports Ranch in Texas is very successful. There are a few more in the north east states being built using this model.

A "bad" example is Arizona Motorsports Park - It was built too close to brand new homes. I hope it doens't become a very expensive 2 year experiment.

Okay, that makes a lot more sense then.

i don't know the aspen track.

the motorsport ranch model is to build one track initially rather than two like autobahn.

the problem with a one track club is that club member end up with no track on weekends as the track gets rented out. the autobahn two track model allows members to run while still renting the facility to clubs and such.

it would need to be on a rather large parcel to allow for two tracks, expansion, and buffer from future area growth and somewhat easy axcess.

It woudl likely have to be east of DIA by quite a ways. I don't see a track like that going in anywhere near the Denver Metro area.

I agree that would be an optimal setup though. It would be nice to belong to a track that you could get on pretty much any time you want.

You have to jump through a few commercials, but here's an article on motorsports country clubs.
