Just a couple of things I've learned that help to make a track weekend in La Junta go a little more smoothly:
- When driving to La Junta, don't speed through the towns on highway 50. Traveling east from Pueblo on US 50 towards La Junta, you'll pass through several small towns, many of which are notorious speed traps. Some have instant-on and laser, so a detector won't always help you. Not that any NASA members would EVER disobey the law, but it's easy to get lulled into a false sense of security while driving through some of those sleepy little prairie-towns (which is exactly what Johnny Law is hoping for).
- Close your gear bags and boxes while in the paddock, as the La Junta desert is populated with all sorts of critters that are best left there. I had a scorpion crawl into an open gear bag on my most recent trip to La Junta. That is one passenger that you DON'T want to bring back home!
