I love that turn but 3 was really a bitch. Lots of body work to do on at least 3 mustangs. The chicken got beat on the drivers side and my passenger door is busted. Lots of Donuts....

I do not know if I want to race with you RB all that rubbing is a little much for me. Is NASA like running econo stock a CNS or what?
I guess if we do race I will have to be in the front or the rear(probably the latter) because I really do not like the whole rubbing thing. Just not my style I am more of a go in clean get out clean. Racing is just to expensive for me to play "derby days" and I really do not need to podium that bad.

You and me both.

If I ever get my CMC car done, I'd be happy to hang out in the back of the pack and play a little cat and mouse game of chase down and pass with you.

I'm doing CMC to keep the costs down (in a relative sence of course). That isn't going to happen if I need to replace major components or get body work done after every race weekend.

I WANT to go racin with Raybob. :D

Seriously I really dont think it was intentional contact. Simply to many cars trying to enter the same turn at the same time with not enough room.

I have been trolling the texas AI/CMC board along with the NASA CMC board for a few months now. None of these guys are intentionally making contact for the sake of a podium finish.

Malcom and Board,
Don't get me out of context. In a 20 plus car field of AI/CMC cars at Hallet there was gonna be contact.
If any one on this forum could chime in here Hallet is narrow and very hard to pass any where. The drag race
to turn one was the 1st part of the mess. When one car stalled on the right row the cars behind him including our very own Tommy and his chicken had to try and go left around.
I was in the left row and got a good start but that's were my passenger door damage happened. The guy that hit me didn't mean to hit me.
After the field got moving we had to get through the light sweeper that is turn one. That seemed to turn out OK but as anyone who has raced Hallet will tell you turn 3 is over a hill at the end of a straight. Well turn 3 is almost like spectator at Second Creek but its a hard braking area and a down hill hair pin all in one.
I probably can brake better than the CMC car behind me
who bumped me into the drivers side of the I think red mustang in front of me in the turn. That guy held his line and turned the both of us around that turn.
Long story short. You just ain't gonna have a race like that at Hallet and not get some kind of unintentional rubs.
I also feel that none of those guys including me and Tommy did any intentional bumping or rubbing. The one guy that whinned about us being to close to his 05,06 Mustang actually side swiped Tommy.

Kyle you are on the money nobody down in Texas wants to hurt each others cars but they do want to win and I will race with them again because I also love the friendly Competition. So next year at Hallet, you wanna go with????

Raybob. The wheels are in motion.

I sat down with the wife a few days ago and discussed a racin budget. Luckilly for me she supports my racin habbits 100%.

Talked with my bud that wants to do a little bit of sponsorship and he gave me two short block and a car that is a roller. Just looking for a trans and a wiring harness. Rich and I are pushing the side business and should have a bunch of ebay listings for different types of race car and motocross graphix listed that will hopefully sell to help fund the racin.

Looking at getting rid of my Dodge truck so that I can get rid of the payment and then buy a used truck just for pulling the trailer. This should free up a bunch of funds for racin.

Also getting ready to get rid of my "other" play toys (except for the Saleen, she is a keeper) and spending the money made on the race car.

It may be a little while before I can run AI but the CMC car is looking good.

Just quoting everyone's favorite movie, Days of Thunder! My car is a daily driver, and I pay all my bills, so I don't want any contact either, but that's why I'm doing the Time Trial route instead of racing. If I went the racing route, I'd do so knowing and expecting that there would be body damage.

Kyle, I would'nt get rid of that Dodge If I were you.
Some of these tows are long and it would suck to have some old truck that breaks all the time or needs constant attention. That tow to Hallet was 700+ miles and I am glad I got a late model Duramax Chevy it makes that pull nicer. (100K mile GM Duramax Warrantee and plenty od GM dealers throughout the Midwest)

I was wondering if Tommy did some racing in the dirt? Plus did he keep all his shoes on???
My goals are to race in the PT and I believe in "if you ain't rubbin' you ain't racin'" proverb. I have already invested in some cheap metal working tools and practiced banging out dents.;)

I'll also be taking the route that Kyle has discussed being that it would be alot cheaper to have an older and paid for towing vehicle. Therefore more funds for racing. Now if a sponser is willing to put out for a nice tow I'm all for that.:D

I have been hit in the rear but have never contacted side to side in five years of this racing stuff. Its more of a personal goal not to touch others as I am on the track. Sometimes I will end up in the grass to avoid this contact but I try not to challenge a corner unless I am on the inside and well past the midline of the opposing car. If he pinches I farm or brake.............just not worth making repairs on the body...........I prefer my money goes to tires and the like.

No my car is not a trailer queen more like a "rat ride", or some abortion from Mad Max. Never sees soap or polish has flat black paint and is chipped all to hell. I prefer it that way for some reason........it is after all just a race car.

malcolm

CMC#35

I've found that side contacts come most often in the first turn of the race: too many folks fighting for the same tire patch space. Best advice I rec'd was "you can't win a race in the first corner, but you sure can lose it there." I do my best to make sure I finish the race; once you get past the top 3 drivers, the points don't change that much, at least in CMC.

The key (for me) is incidental vs intentional contact. I've had both. The former you talk about and shrug off; the latter you get in the other drivers' face.

I am here. I hate that corner. At first I thought my brakes were going out aroun that corner only. I would hit the pedal and nothing. What the @#$%. After I slowed down a little for it it seemed to work out pretty good. I am glad they named a corner after me. As much farming as I did in that corner they should. I think they are getting me some john deer stickers for my car. As for the rubbing, none of it was intentional. Tha dude actually ran into me. And not because I was in the wrong spot, But because he was. It was awesome passing an aix car and raybob in a corner that they both took to wide. Look out for the chicken!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

In RayBob's thread on FRRAX, it appears that most road racers are running between a 750-950 front.

I have more on the upper end of that range. However, in CMC, I'm limited to teh 1LE (32mm) front sway bar, too.

I also bought a set of Jason Swindle's (Unbalanced Engineering) front shocks to work with my specific choice in spring rates.

I then installed a 21mm rear bar, Koni SA rear shocks set to teh mid point and began tuning with differing rear spring rates till I got into my confort zone.

I can now adjust the "handle" with shock compression stiffness or go to a 19mm rear sway bar.

Tommy, I'm not trying to a prick. But LAW Motorsports has spent a crap load of time and money figuring out Glenn and My setups. It's knowledge we offer to customers of the cars we are building.

We would just be hurting our business giving away hard earned data. If nothing else, Glenn and I learned about hard knock data from Lou Gigliotti when we helped him build those WC Vettes.

But, I've given you enough data, though, to get you headed in the right direction ... the right direction as it looks from Texas.

Yep - I'm back from Hawaii, trying to catch up. Raybob - I'll call you tomorrow morning.

Folks - there are about 6-10 Texas AI/CMC folks interested in going to a COMMA event @ Hallett. Chris McComb has already contacted me, and we're work'n it.

I'll be calling the Stephens in the morning as well....this event won't be like anything you've ever been too before ( 'cept maybe the Nats ). We're working on a party, prize give aways ( tires, gas, etc ), and whatever else we can to entice y'all to come on down.

Please - if you're planning to go to Hallett in May, send me an email so we can get you on the roster. http://www.shrackracing.com/email.jpg.

Kevin - come on, amigo....you can get someone to build that CMC car while you're piddling with that new track. Get yer butt go'n! ;)

We will have the TA ready & legal for some fun in the spring Ray.

Where is the best place to get the Toyo Tires we need to run and the Toyo Decals. In SCORE Desert racing the sponsoring Tire Companies give the racers a brake on cost. Is it the same here or do we pay full pop at the local Distributor?

Thanks

Dave,

I've got the Toyo stickers in black and white. There's other colors but you have to get them direct from Toyo. There will be a supply at the pow wow.

Right now, we're getting pretty good deals on Toyos through the Tire Source in Boulder. Talke to Pete and let him know you'll be racing with NASA.

The best deal will be the contingecies. Bill Tolley walked away with $300 in tires at the Hastings event for winning spec miata both days.

We will have to come try a RM race sometime.

Let everyone know we will also be doing an HPDE group with the Stephens driving school. We will have something for everyone, and racing for everything with a cage. However, we will be in our own run group!
I cant wait.
Thanks for signing up!

Alright, boyz ... I gottsa few questions.

You may or may not know, all my gear was stolen from my truck. So, I don't have a current dyno sheet and just had a logbook issued along with an annual tech inspection.

Are we supposed to run under the CMC and AI guidelines or is this a free for all?

I assume full safety gear is required?

Maybe, just maybe, I'll have a driving suit before next weekend. I called PST at Cresson and the one I ordered didn't come in.

I can cobble together all the other gear. I just need a driving suit. And no, I'm not gonna borrow some stinking, sweaty suit.

How do I pay if everything falls into place? Through Ruthy's site? And what's the latest date payment will be accepted just in case even more insurance God's frown upon me ...

Bring that gorgeous white car of yours - with the big X on it - and let's have a fun weekend. As far as I'm concerned, as long as your car is safe, you have a cage and helmet and suit, and the unmatchable Mitch smile, you're in the "Thunder" race group.

Heck, I hope you don't fully meet CMC: it would be the one time I'll be able to say I "beat" you. :D

We had a blast hanging out and trying to race with you guys. Anybody that misses Hallet and this event in particular is just crazy. We need more places like this in Colorado it is like summer camp for Road Racers.

The level of competition these guys bring to the table is just amazing it is no wonder they are fast, they are not screwing around. We willl have to practice a little harder so we can give a better showing next year!
