Does anyone know of any area driving schools? I read the GRM article about the NASA licensing and though about doing this course. I think the cost was $350 and was tought by NASA. It was a wheel-to-wheel provisional license course.

check SCCA for scheduled comp licensing courses (coloradoscca.org) and the local Redline newsletter for other ads. There is a FAASST www.faasst.com (Judy Faass) school coming up at the beginning of July in Pueblo (adjacent to a SCCA race). GO4IT Racing (Mike Pettiford) also does private licensing schools that are recognized. www.go4itservices.com The group schools with SCCA or NASA are the best value unless you want some private instruction. They have bigger fields so you get the feel of doing practice starts and passing in corners.
cheers,
bruce

There is a Skip Barber 3-day racing school at MMP in Utah on the 21-23 July. 3 days on the MMP track in Formula Dodges with some of the best instruction around. :D

I've taken several lessons from Mike Pettiford at www.go4itservices.com
I can recommend him highly. Very professional, very tough. He won't play to your ego, however, and isn't shy about showing you where you are weak.
I've taken lessons from some other folks (none mentioned in this thread) and they were not critical enough, so I didn't really learn as much as I could. Mike takes his job very seriously, and you will learn a lot from him.

Hi Rich,
The NASA course is a 'super school' and covers the last of the items that you would need to learn to get your provisional license (flages, rules, passing, starts, etc). It is region dependent but here in the RM (for now), we would just cover all those things during a regular HPDE4 day for no additional cost whe you are ready to get your license.
There are various ways to get a NASA license depending on your needs (time and $$). Two of the most popular ways are:
1. You can go through the HPDE program as you build your skills and car. Get to HPDE4 and start doing TT. As soon as you (and your car) are ready apply for a provisional license.
2. You can go to a professional racing school and upon graduating you can apply for a provisional license.
We (NASA RM) recognize many professional schools including the larger ones like Russell, Barber, Bondaurant, MidOhio but also some of the smaller private coaches like GO4IT.
So once I complete the Skip Barber school and get the provisional license. What is required to get the full license?

ps When is the next NASA event at MMP!? :D
