Here's a sweet deal for GTS'ers, PT'ers and ST'ers. Yokohama is stepping up to the plate with 3 tires for a win as long as there are 5 in the class. They are going toe to toe with the purple tire.

that's a good contingency... maybe I need to also run GTS and kick some butt. I know I'd at least beat Doug Grande B)

I don't know if you can beat his giant ricer wing...

Wing envy is such an ugly thing. I've seen you staring at it as I go through the paddock - wishing your spec rules allowed it.....

Has anybody run the yokohamas in competition? Are they even close to Hoosiers? How 'bout price? A set of 4 of the purple is about 1200 for me now. Not sure how many times I want to fork that over this year.

I haven't run Yokohamas since their A008RS competition tire was the standard, but it doesn't take much to compare specs. Yoko's latest max summer performance models are the AD07 and AD08. Neither are designed or rated for the DOT performance tire market. UTOG ratings are 180 for either tire, while Hoosiers are in the 60 range (much softer). Yoko does not offer any higher performance tire than the AD07 and 08 currently.

Depending on your car and setup, you might adapt the Yokos to work well, but it still won't touch the R6 in competition. And they're slightly more expensive than a R6 in the sizes I run, so that's not a plus, either. I still think Hoosier has a decided advantage in the R-compound market for road racing.

If anyone has any 16 inch 225-235ish size hoosiers or yokohamas that are done, and you want to get rid of them, I'll take the tires and maybe run in your run group so that we can win some free money.

These are not DOT tires kids and have no R rating.

These are full out racing slicks and therefore will most likely be as fast as or faster than the Hoosier.

Chris - I'll look on my kid's go cart. I think it uses one of those skinny 225s you're looking for....:D

Dave, which yokos are you referring to? Might be a problem for GTSers as non DOT tires bring a higher minimum hp/weight ratio.

The Yokohama contingency is specifically for the A005 which is a slick.

Mac,

Is that what you were running last year?

I ran them at nationals, after turning the power down to 12:1. Can't say they were faster, as that was my first time at Miller.

No, I was running Nitto NT01's last year.
