what kind stuff do you have to have done to your car is there certian specifications that need to be done to my car?
I have 2 1987 palemero gray mits Starions ones gonna be my event car and the other a restored car!!!!
thanks for any replies.
i guess it depends on what you want to do.
if you've never done any road track events, then i would suggest you sign up for the HPDE part of an event. this will give you an instructor and get you started in a safe way. it will also relieve any apprehension that you may have by never doing this and not knowing what to expect. once you do this, the progression becomes very clear as you move up the HPDE ladder by improving your skills.
you can search around this forum (there's not too many post yet) and learn quite a bit.

Over in the HPDE section of the forums there is a thread on HPDE tech requirements. http://www.nasarockymountain.com/nasa_forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5
Believe it or not, the ideal car for HPDE is a brand new car off the showroom floor.... New tires, brakes, seat belts, airbags, etc and nothing is worn out. Since you don't have a brand new car, get it in the best shape possible. Here's a link to getting your car ready for an HPDE: http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/preparing.html
Other than that, you'll need a helmet and some way to put temporary numbers on your car.

well my starion is almost done!!!! it has a rebuild so its just cleaning up all the loose ends.
I also took Ker's advice and just snooped around for awhile and i ran in to that HPDE thread.......im really intrested in geetting involed but there is still some car prep to do first i have a cardomain sit with all kinds of pics.
cant wait to get out the and learn!!!!:)
i would also stress safety before performance. before doing anything to add horsepower, torque, and (in some cases) handling, etc. think in terms of cages (or at least rollbar), better brakes, harnesses, etc. (by the way, you'd be surprised how much better a car can perfom by adding these).

Absolutely!!! The best way to make the car go fast is the driver and making the driver comfortable (mentally and physically) is critical. Since it sounds like you're building a dedicated track car, here's some tips.
A good seat and harness setup goes a long way towards keeping you planted in the seat. If you are fighting to stay sitting up in the car, you're yanking on the steering wheel.
Well bled brakes with a good set of performance pads (note, I didn't say race pads) will go a long way towards learning to be consistant. Ludachris, our resident DSM expert , can probably give you some leads on good track-day pads.
A decent bolt in roll bar can be found for as little as $250 - very cheap for the safety it provides. Let us know if you need help sourcing one or if you have any questions.
