I just received an email from PMP regarding an open meeting held by a planning committee that will discuss the future of PMP. This scares me a little bit with all the recent track closures. Please do what you can to attend this meeting or send an email showing your support. Here is the letter:

"On Thursday, August 10, 2006, the committee planning the future use of the Honor Farm property, which PMP is part of, will be holding an open meeting at the Pueblo Convention Center located on first Street between Santa Fe Avenue and Main Street, (One block west of Interstate 25 at the First Street exit (98B). The meeting begins at 6:00pm.

This is our opportunity to express, be it in numbers or in statements of support, our opinions concerning the importance of Pueblo Motorsports Park to our lives, Colorado and the Pueblo economy.

All of us may not get the opportunity to address the committee however, supporters are encouraged to attend. This committee reports directly back to the Pueblo City Council.

Everyone is invited. Drag Racing supporters, Road course groups, Bike riders, Quarter Midget enthusiast, High School participants and anyone devoted to Pueblo Motorsports Park.

Please attend, if at all possible. If you cannot attend and have not sent an e-mail expressing your support of PMP, please send it to me ASAP so I can include it with the others.

If you have any questions, please post a message here. Also, not everyone has the internet so please pass the word to everyone.

Thank you and Blessings to all,

Earlene"

Earlene's e-mail address is ene5348@yahoo.com - please send letters there.

I got the email and made sure that Earlene had my long letter from a few months ago that I wrote in response to a request she made on the PMP forum. She still had it and was submitting it for Thursday, but I wrote some more stuff today while attaching my magazine cover shot, which was of course taken right there at PMP.

I also made a thread on CRN, so hopefully people will care enough to at least write a short email showing support...

Is there a specific address we should send the letters to, or "attention" anything?

It should be obvious at the meeting that the park is important to many people, but more is still better. What will also mean a lot to the city though is economic impact. If anyone who lives in the area can get the word out to some hotel and restaurant managers, one of those people speaking at the meeting would carry more weight than 10 racers.

Good point - Dave, can we send a note to any managers for the local motels/hotels/inns?

I sent this, anything important that I should add ??

Hi Earlene,
I just wanted to show my support to PMP for the meeting on thurs. I live in Taos N.M. and cannot attend. As a NASA racer, I have very much enjoyed the opportunity to drive at the track, and feel it is a very necessary venue for people like myself, and especially younger drivers who might otherwise get involved in illegal street racing. I think it is very important for car enthusiasts to have such an outlet to race their cars in such a geat enviroment. I would very much like to come up for a weekday testing at the track, I've been doing some work on my car. I'll call you to find out available time to do that. I hope this message finds you well, PLEASE keep the track open, thanks Cullen Winter

The PCA had a DE at Pueblo last weekend. The general manager (executive director?) of the track came and passed out surveys relating to the impact of the facility on the local economy. It's odd that he didn't mention the meeting.

It's going to suck really bad if we lose another track, I know there are some guys on here from codrift.org, Someone should post this on there. Email sent.

I'm drafting my letter right now - if you can't make it to the meeting, just write a good email explaining the positive impact this track has made on your life. We need to explain the importance of motorsports and why it's necessary for this track to be around to support our local motorsports scene.

I think people should center on how the track keeps people from racing on the street. That is becoming a big deal again, because of that Fast and furious 3 movie.

Thats exactly what my letter included.

As a member of the Colorado Springs Street Racing Task
Force, we have recognized that Race Tracks such as PMP
are an integral part of keeping the public streets of
Colorado safe. Without a local outlet for enthusiasts
to compete in motorsports, many will take their hobby
to the streets. This creates a dangerous situation for
public citizens. As co-owner of CoRacing.com, I can
attest that Colorado's racing community is vary large.
Whether it be sport bikes, dirt bikes, quads, full on
drag cars, street cars or road race cars; Colorado
NEEDS Pueblo Motorsports Park to remain open.

Do not forget to mention that you spend money for hotels, beer, food, gas and beer in Pueblo when attending events at PMP. Money that otherwise would be spent in another city. Money talks.

Did anybody go to the meeting. What happened. When is the next meeting. Maybe we can get a little more advanced notice for the next meeting and make more of a presence

I had to work a little later and got to the meeting late I had a hard time finding a place to park and I couldn't get in to listen to what was discussed. The only thing I heard that was brought up was mainly the effect that the park has on the community and the committee listened to people's opinions. The feeling in the crowd was optimistic and heavily favored the track.
I recieved this info via word of mouth and can't vouche for any of this.

Good news guys - just received this email:

"The Thursday meeting was positive. Pueblo Motorsports Park was represented by all users. Car Clubs, Open riding, Bike Clubs, Motocross and Drag Racing. A sampling of the support letters received from you were identified to the committee and attendees. After the presentation from the Consulting firm, attendees were broken into small groups to discuss our assessment of the issues, goals and activities to be added or deleted from the master plan. Pueblo Motorsports Park was identified as priority within the entire plan. Another meeting is planned for September 14 at 6:00pm in the Pueblo Convention center. If you can attend, please do. Thank you again for your help.

Earlene Theis"

Thanks to all those who attended the meeting or sent letters!

I think I was the only one there from NASA, but not sure. The turn out for the meeting was huge. There were tons of people wearing their club merchandise and insignias.
