Heart transplant has begun.

Out with the iron block, 2.5l turbo motor, in with a 5.7l all aluminum V8.

Other TTA drivers, begin to tremble in fear! :p

I'm pretty sure the 944 motor is all aluminum also. Good luck with the LS1 swap! Should be fun!

Ha, in your dreams Evo boy! :D

It's all power to weight and I'm making sure I don't exceed the limits for TTA.

944 block is iron, but the LS motor is larger than the 944 one. Difference in weight is the LS weighs 50 lbs *less* than the 944!

More progress made. Motor has been yanked out of the donor car and is on an engine stand getting cleaned up. A mild cam will get installed. All aluminum V8 goodness!

My car is getting stripped, motor should be coming out of it today.

I wish my credit cards. Been funding out of cash unfortunately, but luckily have paid for 2/3rds of the cost by selling parts off the car I no longer needed.

I'll check on the exhaust, but that's the factory placement, so it should be ok.

How's it looking? Will you be running TTA at Pueblo?

docwyte
09-01-2010, 01:33 PM
In a holding pattern waiting for the headers to return (we put smog pump stuff on them, then sent them back for final welding and coating), oil pan and cam to show.

Then the motor can be put in, plumbed etc. It should be up and running in a week.

Plan is to fly down there (texas) on Sept 17th, get the car, take it to Texas Motorsports Ranch on Sept 18th and shake it down.

If it's all good it'll go on a truck back here to me. If not, the shop will address the issues then send it up to me.

Should be a go for PMP!

docwyte
09-03-2010, 04:38 PM
Well, the cam, valve springs, pushrods and timing chain arrived today. Finally!

The motor can go into the car permenantly now. Still waiting on the headers to get back from coating/final welding and the oil pan. Both are on their way, I was hoping they'd arrive today so the shop would have everything.

At least with the motor built and in the car the wiring harness can be done, brakes can be done, AC can be done, etc, etc...

docwyte

Cam, valve springs, push rods and double timing chain have been installed.

Motor is ready to go in permenantly.

Yeah, me too. Motor is permenantly installed in the bay, everything up top (wiring, AC, brakes, hydroboost) is getting done.

Oil pan is here and fits, so oil cooler, remote oil filter, lines etc are getting plumbed.

Last thing is the exhaust, get it tuned and drive it some.

docwyte
09-29-2010, 07:24 PM
Setting it up for TTS. I can make a maximum of 391rwhp which shouldn't be very hard for this motor to do.

Maximum for TTA was 368rwhp I think and that would mean detuning the motor, so I decided to bump up a class...

docwyte

Yeah, but mine sounds a whole lot cooler! :D

I hope to make the event this coming weekend, but that's entirely dependent on whether the shop can log enough mileage on the car to properly shake it down.

If not, I'm leaving the car with them until they feel it's ready to come home to me.

Doh, small set back yesterday. Steering shaft U joint broke!

On the flip side this does give the shop plenty of time to do enough mileage on the car to properly shake out any little problems.

Well, the car is wrapped up and should be getting loaded on the trailer tomorrow morning to come up to me. I should have it Friday.

I have some news that'll probably make some of you a little unhappy. The car made less horsepower than I was expecting. While I could look at that as a bad thing, the flip side is I'll be in a lower class than I expected.

I thought I was going to be in TTS, now it looks like I may be in TTA! I looked at the points sheet and the power to weight and it's definitely TTA.

hammerevo
10-14-2010, 11:07 AM
That makes me happy. Maybe I will stay in A then???? Who knows. Sounds like S might have quite a few more people next year, in which case I will switch to E85 and throw 275s on my baby... We'll see which class ends up bigger.

docwyte
10-14-2010, 11:21 AM
You should be able to run 275's in TTA. The base tire size for TTA is 295. Unless you're a TTB car and points have taken you to TTA and you don't have the space with points to run a 275...

delirium45

Correct on the 2nd one. I am a base TTB* (265s). Points take me to the top of TTA, 275s will put me over. I am getting -1 for running 255s right now.

docwyte

Figures. Why not stay in TTA and play? I think the only way I'll be in TTS is if I totally gut the car. As it is I can remove 200 lbs from it and still be in TTA.

So the plan is to get a lightweight battery, fiberglass hood, remove the rear seat and hatch carpet and not run that much fuel.

That should get me close...

Car is on the trailer, should have it tomorrow morning!

hammerevo
10-14-2010, 12:16 PM
My issue right now is I replaced my stock air dam with an aftermarket air dam, according to the points sheet I have to take 3 points. I would have to get the TT director to approve it, otherwise it would bump me up to S. We'll see.

Sounds like you have some room to play. I may be heading out to HPR on the 23rd as well, I would like to check out the monster.

Yup, I can either add more power and stay around the same weight, or remove weight.

I'll have to see which is easier and cheaper to do. If I can find a set of good aftermarket heads for cheap, I may add power...

I should be at that HPR October 23rd track day...

Had the car at MAC tonight for a tune. The tune that was on the car wasn't all that good and wasn't safe. We made the same power, but with a much safer tune.

Made about 336rwhp and 342ft lbs at the wheels. Plan is to get a different cam and that should maximize power at around 370ish rwhp for TTA.

Have a new cam coming, once Comp Cams comes back from "vacation" and grinds it for me.

Also playing with getting the k&n air intake on, thought I wasn't going to have to cut anything, but ran into some clearance issues.

I'm going to have to tuck the MAF under the header panel space, as if it's further upstream it either hits the headlight opener bar, or the hood can't close.

So I'm going to cut away one of the header support struts and then use a small length of pipe to extend the intake so it'll reach the throttle body.

Then back to MAC for a retune and dyno.
