Ok, So I am selling my $$$ payment and insurance Yellow SRT4 and putting the $ elswhere. I am going to finish my 1999 SVT and 1970 Cougar. I was also going to start building an AI CAR!!!!!!!!

So I was reading the rules and have a couple ?'s. I have built and worked on lot's of foxes so I was going to stick with an 87-93 notch but maybe do it a little different.

Now... Any reason I can't build a Turbo 2.3 notch on a Megasquirt (standalone)? Can I use a NON-Ford head, like an esslinger or even a Volvo head? I can use a non OEM Turbo setup as well right?

The HP to Weight is based on SAE Dynojet #'s right?

Thx!

Sweet idea. 2.3t fords are pretty tough and a hell of a lot of fun.

The question that I can answer is yes you can use the 4cyl ford in AI and no there is not a minumum wieght for either the 4cyl or 6cyl.

Heck if you wanted to you could run a Tbird/cougar or maybe a fairmont (lighter than a fox stang).

Chad5160,
I would start the Mustang in CMC but if its a 4 banger and you wanna do a ford you would be better listening to Kyle. I have also heard that the Tbirds are lighter. Theres a Thunderbird Turbo coupe in AI in the Midwest.
I don't quite understand the fascination with tiny engines?

Last year I ran across (not literally) the ultimate Frankenstein Ford at a road course...a '77 Pinto with a 2.3L turbo out of an '88 T-Bird Turbo Coupe.

Due to the forward engine location (relative to the front wheels) of the Pinto layout, it was a handful in the corners. However, it was very quick. It was getting the best of a variety of other cars. The owner showed me a dyno sheet documenting 300 RWHP.

The esslinger head's are not cheap, and the volvo head's don't really give a big advantadge, not to mention they are extremly hard to swap.
When you do the whole non oem turbo setup, you need to think about the tranny, they can only take 300-375 hp, and it will even take less when your launching on the strip with slicks.
As always anyone who is interested in ford 2.3's, go to Turboford.org

I'm with Raybob: what the heck is the fixation on little engines?

I mean Really.

If you want to run with the big boys, then run with the big boys: it's a V8, in a real car.

On the other hand, if you're all talk, then putt putt around with your little whatever.

:D

There. That ought to get some smack talk going...

Hey Chris,
Maybe they are worried about fuel economy?
I would put the Duramax out of my Pick up in my Camaro,
310HP 520 TQ and it gets 17mpg in my 7000# truck.
Check last months HotRod Mag, Banks is Building Duramax powered road racer's..

Good Gas mileage??????

Well if everyone wants to know.

The SVO mustang was built for one reason. to kick the piss out of V8 camaros and vettes in showroom stock racing in 1986.

And well frankly it did. The little 2.3t made equal HP and torque, better weight balance, better weight to HP ratio and better handling and won several showroom stock championships.

Nelson Ledges anyone.

My little SVO with nothing more than a 3 inch exaust put 220 RWHP and 280 RWTQ to the wheels in a package that weighs less than than a comparable V8 mustang (alot less than a sn95 and 3rd gen camaro).

:p

Its a little outdated when caompared to the new cars but between 84-86 they where the bomb.

People run 4 bangers to make you v8 guys cry when you get beat. Actually I will run anything that is built on smarts not just "Huge Engine, Huge Power". You can run these little fords with a turbo and make 400hp, Weigh alot less and Yeah we do get better gas milage, because after the race We can turn down the boost.

Well dude, I'll see you and your small engine at the track in the AI class or CMC and you can put your money where your 4 banger is.

I was under the impression that 4's can't run in cmc.

You are correct! No 4 banger in CMC. But anything goes (well almost!) in AI. So turn up the boost and see how you do! I've got an 84 SVO that I have considered running in AI, but I really prefer the power and torque of a V8. But that's just me! I've seen and driven some 400 HP SVO and they are cool to say the least. My only major complaint was they were a bit twitchy to drive and drive fast. Seems like most of them were all or nothing on power. Then again it may have been the tuning or the way they were set up. Oh Hell! I just have to get the time to get something together and get some track time next year so you never know, you may see me in an SVO after all! Trey

Why did SCCA outlaw 4 banger turbos from GT1 ?

Take a look.

SVOs are fun little cars nad interesting to say the least.

Currently we have 4 of them in the club.
My white 85
Richs red 85
Ricks black 84
Brians black comp prep 86.

I still think you would be out gunned in AI but in cmc they would do pretty well.
