As far as race class goes, I'll need to move up into the HPDE ranks first. I'll cross that road when I come to it. :) What was Ray-Bob saying about little engines? ;)

Thanks. Yep... after 23.5 hours there and 25 hours back, it's been a long weekend. I'm resting too! I'll be working on registration this week (and possible the next). Also, I'll try to get up a few more pics. In the mean time, here's one from loading up at the factory in Oregon. Still has the plastic protective tape on the fenders! :)

About the only place to put numbers on it is the intake.
Better yet, get a mesh window net (or other square piece of netting), sew or paint a couple of numbers on it along with attaching velcro straps on the corners of the net, and then wrap the velcro around the horizontal tubes to attach it. It might also provide a small benefit of keeping hands and arms somewhat inside the cockpit if anything unfortunate should occur.

it is going to need arm restraints because it is an open top car (11.4.8 refers to 15.5)
cheers,
bruce

Bruce... even for HPDE? Or is the Arm Restraints clause needed for TT and Racing?

According to the CCR, if I'm reading it correctly  , for HPDE you only need to satisfy the requirements of 11.4.8, which says
11.4.8 Seatbelts and Harnesses
The seatbelts should be in good condition. No damage may be present on the seatbelts and they must be the factory configuration. Any harness or any restraint system, other than factory stock, shall conform to CCR section #15.5, in all respects* except for the expiration regulations. Harnesses that are expired for racing may be used providing that they are in at least very good condition. The use of a lap belt without any shoulder restraint is not permitted. Passenger seatbelts must meet the same minimum requirements per the CCR as the driver seatbelts if being used by a passenger. Notepassenger equipment need not match the installed equipment on the driver’s side. *Aftermarket DOT-certified belt sets, installed to the manufacture’s specifications may be allowed. Proof of DOT certification and proper installation is the driver’s responsibility.
I think the key part is "factory stock". Since this car is straight from the factory, the belts it comes with are legal for HPDE. Now, once he tries to move to a Competition class, then he must follow 15.5, which does require arm restraints. That's just my opinion though. You might want to ask Dave because if for any reason this car is not considered "factory", then you will need a set of 5-7 point belts and arm restraints.

Clarification....
The belts supplied as stock for the Atom (or any other OEM manufactured car) are approved for HPDE and for TT as is. If the belts are changed to a different setup from stock then they must meet the requirements in 15.5.
Arm restraints are not required in HPDE or TT for open or closed cars. However, just like anything (fire bottle, H&N, roll cage, etc) that can add safety they cabn be used by the driver. In the case of the Atom where you can properly mount a pair of arm restraints, I would most likely do it if I drove the car.
Now.... going to competition (wheel to wheel) in the Atom is a different story. The car as shown in the above picture is not approved for w2w competition. For example, the cars used in w2w racing in England have a different roll over setup.

The car comes with a 5-point harness, correct? I have a set of arm restraints (Simpson) from when I was racing Skip Barber. If you want to try them out, I can bring them along. They feel weird at first, but after one session you are pretty much used to them. Let me know if you want me to bring them along.

Thanks Rick and Dave.
I know about the roll bar needed for w2w. I'm not ready for that yet... the factory does provide a roll bar that is removable. Mounting points are included in all cars. I may purchase one or have one made once I get to that point.
Rick... I'd love to try out the arm restraints.

Cool, I'll throw them in my bag for the weekend. Come find me and I'll show you how they work.
Rick
most definetly use the arm restraints - required or not. cheap safety insurance.

I can't wait to see you run that. The Atom is probably the second coolest car I've ever seen.
Have you driven it on the street yet?
