View Full Version : Question about CMC rules.

This question may be unique to our region.
On the dyno certs for CMC it is stated that one must have carb jet sizes etc listed on the dyno sheet.
Now since we are at high elevation and going from 6k feet to 1800 feet a carb car will require a jet change to operate correctly. So my jet sizes would differ from track to track and not match the dyno cert.
The real tickler here is that the carb changes would not be made for extra power but needed to make the car even run correctly.
I'm sure that the other regions do not have this issue so they probably never even thought about it.
I would really rather not have to travel around the country and visit different dyno facilitys and carry 2-3 different dyno certs.
I need to know so that I can make a decision on what kind of induction that I will be running in the future.

I guess you could jet it and get it running well for our altitude and have one dyno sheet done for it so you could run locally. Then, throw in the jets you'd use to get it to run right at lower altitudes, run it again and have a dyno cert with crappy power numbers. That way you could take out all kids of weight and have a "legal" dyno chart for a car that would produce a lot more power than what the dyno chart indicated and still be "legal" according to the dyno chart and rules as they are currently written?!
Of course, if you went to nationals and they put you on the portable dyno and scales, you might have some expaining to do.
Good question. I'm glad to see you posted at www.camaromustangchallenge.com already. I hope they plan on making a change to the rules, however it may be accomodated, for next year.

That brings up a good point for mid-ohio. If i dyno here and i am right where i need to be for power to weight ratio, when i go to mid-ohio and get dyno'd i will be illegal. Hey Dave where are you? What do I do?????

So far the responses from the NASA CMC folks on the www.camaromustangchallenge.com forum seems to be following a similar line. Get a "high altitude" and a "low altitude" dyno cert to absolutely positive you are within tolerance...especially if you expect to be in the top three at a national event. You wouldn't want the nasty surprise of ending up out of tolerance if you were tapped to do a dyno run following a podium finish.
My personal feeling on this is that there needs to be a clarification made in the CMC rules to explicitly handle this, especially if the RM region is expecting to field several additional CMC cars next season.

My feeling is if some of you guys don't stop talkin about next years CMC fields and get your cars put toegether there will still only be Criss and his Orange Mustang in CMC Rocky Mntn Region.
And if Kyle Watkins does'nt come to AI next season I will have to Race a CMC Rental Camaro with Air conditioning and Power windows against Criss.

The dyno at MO will be setup starting on Wednesday. You will have an opportunity to get on it and see where you are before Sunday.
Same goes for scales. Since they are the official scales for the weekend, you should get the car on them sometime Thursday.

I would recomend a #5 @ Good times. Double big daddy bacon cheeseburger with onion rings and a big time pepsi.
