View Full Version : caravan to Hastings?

Given the length of the drive, it seems reasonable to talk about a caravan of NASA-RM folks to head over to Hastings.
Personally, I'm planning to depart Colo Springs sometime Friday morning, Sep 29. I don't know if there are others from the Springs; also don't know if there is some kind of 'natural' meeting point along the road for those of us from the south end of the state, and those from north- and center-state.
Any ideas/suggestions?

Sounds like a plan.
I dont have a exact time of departure but I will be heading N I25 to I76 and then east for 5 hours. :D
Is everyone trailering? Or will we have a small group that are driving out there.

There will be two of us likely departing from here Friday mid day/early afternoon.

I heard that a handfull of RMVR folks got tickets on Hiway34 and it's recommended to watch out if you use that route.
Don't see Hiway 34 on my wall map, but it was the route taken off I70.

I don't know if I'll be joining anyone in a caravan but if I end up driving to Hastings I'd like be around one just in case. I think there is only 2 of us from Pueblo that will for sure be heading out. If you all can give me an exact time and location of which you would be leaving that would be kewl.

I will be headed out friday morning sometime also. we could probably meet at the flea market or something off I-76. I cannot confirm until after mid-ohio in hopes that i have most of my car left. :D I think raybob is in the same position. He will go to hastings if he doesn't blow up his car. If there is only three AI guys and Corey and Raybob don't show up, then what race will there be. All of us racing against ourselves.

I've got confirmation on midwest AIX competition for you. I'll get him to pass the word and we'll get more.
Right now, I'm planning on AI/CMC/SU having their own group. These Nebraska spectators will eat up the big bore group, and there will be spectators. This track is big news to the locals.

Did yopu here that Raybob and Corey. No excuses. We need a show. Whatever it takes. It is the last race of the year at a new track for us. How much better than that does it get. Oh yeah, spectators that will eat up AI.

Friday morning early I have a date with the dentist - not good. But shortly thereafter Sweet Sue and I will be driving (flying low) to Hastings via I 25 - 76 - 70. Several folks around here went to college in the Hasting area. They claim that the drive is seven hours. This I cannot believe. ;)

FOXBAT- it would be much faster to do I-80 instead of 70 Speed limit on 80 is 75 KS is 65 or 70 if I am not mistaken. and it is further.
you can easy get away with 83 on I-80 without a second look. I do it all the time but then I drive a Cooper S. They don't know what to think of them out here.

I drive from Denver to Clarinda Iowa via I80 into Lincoln Nebraska 4-6 times a year. If you keep it under 85 your golden. Make sure to slow down when you come into the smaller towns off of the HWY. The speed limit will change to 65 and the local boys dont enjoy you driving through at 80. :D
My little brother will be driving up from Iowa so if any of you guys are heading west to get there let me know.

I got to the Grand Island turnoff (near Hastings) from Westminster in just about 5 hours in a Suburban earlier this summer, so you'd have to be driving pretty slow for it to take 7 hours ...
cheers,
bruce

That must have been without a wife and kids in the car.
I've found if I plan for 7 hours and get there in 5, I'll be in a much better mood when I arrive than if I planned for 5 and got there is 7.

For Mark or anyone else coming through Cheyenne, I'm planning to leave close to noon. I have a white F350 and a silver Interstate trailer. I'd be happy to caravan with anyone, but when towing, I don't go over 80 mph.

Ya know it's hard trying to designate departure times because of "stuff" happening.
Maybe if we exchanged cell#, we'd have a better chance of getting togehter one way or another.
I'm hopefully leaving no later than noon Fri. barring "stuff" happening.:D
My name is Fred. I'll be driving a black Eagle Talon for HPDE1. My cell is 720-280-3805.

Fred - good idea.
I hope to get out of Colo Springs by 10am latest. My mobile is 719-237-8850. I drive a white F250 crew cab, but the easy landmark is the orange Mustang on the trailer behind me.

I'll be leaving Denver sometime mid-morning on Friday, say 10AM-ish. I'll be driving a blue Tacoma double-cab towing this on a flatbed:

I saw a gray carrera with tire trailer yesterday (Thursday) AM (about 7:55) heading west on Harmony @ 287. I assume that's you? If they are toyos, where do you get them mounted around here (and do you buy them around here)?
BTW, Driving to/from Wisconsin at least once a year my wife and I (and her family, making the opposite trip) prefer to take CO 14 (Mulberry) East to Sterling, hop on I-76 (North/East) there, stay on that until it merges with 80 (East).
Yahoo! maps says that while it's 25 miles shorter than going through Cheyenne, it is 23 minutes longer...but that is not my experience, probably because I'm farther from the speed limit (both in number of MPH over and % over) on an empty road with 55mph limit than interstate with 75 limit. Route seems a bit more relaxing regardless of if the time it takes is more/less/even.
If you take this route, don't expect to see a gas station between AULT and Sterling (fill up in Fort Collins).
