According to George Anderson, "this year we have only leaded 112 CITGO currently at the track. You can purchase 87+(incls 10% ethanol) and up to 91 octane here" :( .

The good thing is that the regular gas station / mini mart is supposed to be less than 1 minute from the front gate.... Think of it as a really big paddock :p

The best fuel I could find in Hastings on my last trip was at a Shell station on their main street. It had 90 octane without ethanol.

All of the other stations that I checked out had 87 with 10% ethanol and 89 with 15% ethanol.

I ended up using Shell and adding a fuel booster to end up with approx. 98 octane without any ethanol. My engine seemed to run very well and stayed cool.

Randy,

How far away was the Shell?

We will have directions at registration for everyone that may need it.

thanks,
Bruce

The Shell station is located at 520 N. Burlington. They are 5 blocks north of South St. If you take South St. East from Burlington, it becomes US 6 and runs into the Track at Showboat Blvd.

The total distance from the track is about 2 1/2 - 3 miles. Best to fill containers in the A.M. on your way to the track.

After much research, most of which I don't understand, I discovered that the best octane boosters are the ones made with methyl cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl, as opposed to ferosene and toluene, see why I'm clueless ? gazing blankly at the selection at our local auto parts joint, I see that Lucas oil, Turbo 108, and NOS racing formula fit into the first group, anybody got actual experience to share on the subject ?? It sounds like strong gas will be either scarce or pricey in Hastings. Thanks

Well I ran a 12.1 compression small block chevy in my 72 Chevelle for years off of Nebraska/Iowa pump gas without any problems or detonation.

That Methyl ... stuff is often refered to as MMT.
Any of the stuff in the little containers that you buy at an autoparts store will only raise the octane rating by a few 1/10ths of a point.
You can put a gallon on Toluene into your tank (avail at paint supply stores) and fill up, but if you're doing that you may as well just put a gallon or two of the 110 leaded from the track in your tank.

Thanks, I got my info from a magazine comparison of the three different recipes. It was done at a lab using whatever it is that they measure octane (both methods) ending up with an AKI figure, and the MMT had better rsults than all three, save mixing toluene at 25-30 %. If the leaded race gas isn't too pricey, that'll be the route for me. Gotta enjoy the substantially lower altitude (I'm at 7200') with some good juice in the car, see you in NE !!

I know its late to post this but I didn't read this posting until today. For the couple of track days that I was able to get to in order to develop a database, although its not a very good one right now, I used this stuff to bring up octane to 93. Rocket Brand (http://www.rockettbrand.com/) In the product technicals they have blending charts for specific octane levels that you'd want. Here is the one for mixing with 91 91 blending (http://www.rockettbrand.com/technicals/documents/BlendingCharts/91OctaneBlendingChart.pdf) and here are the CO locations they have listed on their site.
