Hi all. Just joined the club today and took my new to me 94 miata to get a tech inspection. I passed but had a few questions about a few items the inspector was unsure on. Do I have to run with water only in the cooling.g system? Is a fire extinguisher a requirement? Is roll bar padding a must have? Thanks. James

Are there any other not obvious items that are a must have?

Welcome, you'll have great time. Watch out for the kool-aid group, though.:D

Antifreeze is fine in HPDE. Extinquisher not required. Not sure about padding on a roll bar in HPDE.

Welcome to RM NASA! I would recommend that you download and review NASA's "CLUB CODES AND REGULATIONS 2011.4 EDITION©" You will find everything you need to know and more about requirements. The only mention that I could find about roll bar padding is in the following section:

15.6.4 Padding
All roll cage surfaces that may come in contact with the driver should be padded with high-density padding such as Ethafoam or Ensolite. It is recommended that padding meeting SFI specification 45.1 be used.

As a general observation on my part, any additional safety-related items, such as a fire extinguisher, that is beyond minimum requirements is a good thing to have.

11.4.7: "All cars with roll bars are required to have adequate roll bar padding per CCR section #15.6.4".

James, I am located in Littleton too, and I'd be happy to perform an HPDE tech inspection for you if you'd like. That way, I can go over the rules and answer any other questions you might have. Feel free to call or email.

Thanks for the help all. I'll read the rules... Just wasn't sure what was OK and what was not in HPDE1. Yes this will be my first time out. I'm excited.
