I'd like to bring some friends out for HPDE1 but they don't have appropriate cars. Any suggestions on where to get an HPDE1-compatible car? Looking for loan/rental, etc., not purchase.
Rental is a plan, but probably no stick-shifts. What have other folks done? Thanks!

How are there cars not appropriate? I would think as long as they are mechanically sound, they're good to go.

Toyota FourRunner, Prius, old Nissan pickup, ancient beater Geo Prizm, etc. Maybe "scary" is more accurate?
I'd lend my 85 Rx-7 street car (rear drums and all), but not sure it's sufficiently reliable. My 85 Rx-7 race car could be a bit much and only has one seat.

When I was at High Plains Raceway in HPDE 1 there was somebody there in a rented Camaro, just from your average rental car service (Avis, Hertz or some company like that).

There is some sort of discount associated with Avis in the Member Benefits of NASA.

You can rent both camaros and mustangs at the airport and other places. Granted they'll be a V6/auto. But the new V6's actually perform pretty well. The new mustang V6 makes over 300 hp. Perfect for HPDE1 and 2.

I remember a rental hertz shelby mustang at Pueblo a few years ago ;)

Don't remind me! That's what my V8 makes :(

Those boys from Texas NASA were burning the tires off that white Camaro and Challenger in HPDE3 at PPIR, believe they got them from two different rental places.

Maybe the place to go would be the Colorado Springs Airport?

Beth and I both have driven rented cars at the track. Honestly, especially for HPDE1, it is FINE. Granted, they'll be torching the crap street tires, but it can be LOTS of fun. At Hallett 3 years ago, there were THREE rental V6 mustangs chasing each other around :)

BTW, I've always wanted to take a Prius to the track and see what it could do ;)

I've seen an Insight on track - couldn't believe those little tires were keeping it on the pavement! (very skilled driver).
Okay, it looks like renting a Mustang is the way to go. Thanks, everyone!

Not much. A few weeks ago I pulled up next toa Prius at a stop light. I revved the engine a couple of times. It pooped out a battery and flipped over.

One nearly wrecked an Exige at PPIR a few years back also.
