Hey guys, asking for a little help here. I just acquired a 1996 328is and am very interested in racing. If at all possible any info would be greatly appreciated with directing with immediate entry into this new hobby i am overly enthusiastic about. I have never been on a track before. How do i get my foot in the door very quickly like. What is the quickest and easiest way for me to get started racing or just on the track. This is my second BMW and i would love to see what she can do. I think this car has alot of track potential and is very worthy mechanically. what do i need to do first and foremost, who should i contact and what is necessary.
first, welcome. you've come to the right place.
here are several links that will help you get started (others will chime in on anything i might miss):
registration for our next event at hpr august 20/21:

great hpde information here (high performance driving education):

hpde is where you start. you would start in hpde 1 and get an instructor at no cost to get you started. you move from hpde 1 to 2 to 3 based on your abilities.
typically, if you want to go w2w racing you will need to show ability in hpde 3 to qualify for comp (competition) school.
hope this helps. after reading the above hpde information, just ask any other questions.

Welcome!
Like Kevin mentioned, you're at the right place to get started.
First and foremost, come on out to our next event and get out there on track in NASA's HPDE level 1.
Simply making it to the track and talking to everyone there will answer all your questions for moving into wheel to wheel racing, or Time Trials, or whatever your final intentions become.
Don't forget to have your car tech inspected before coming to the track. In a nutshell, if your car does not have bald tires, and a battery that is secure, you should be fine. As well as a helmet.
