Is there any vehicle type restrictions for use in the HPDE?
Tim
with dave out traveling and i not having any rule book with me, i will give it a stab.
generally there are no restrictions per se. your car must pass the tech inspection required of all. hpde1/2 are novice and don't need any thing other than the tech. hpde 3 requireements are similar to 1/2 but i would strongly suggest improved brake pads and fluid and some things like that since you will be driving at higher speeds and using more brake. hpde4 is typically a race prepped car, pretty much all the safety requirements met.
having said this, i will defer to dave for my blunders and ommissions. :)

Vehicle restrictions? No, not really. For obvious reasons we don't allow trucks, SUVs, etc.
Other than that if it meets the safety requirements, you're good like KER mentioned (without any blunders:))

Dave & KER, my daughters Z28 is an auto trans, thats OK for here HPDE? Will you have enough instructors? My wife won't let me instruct our Daughter because she thinks I will kill her. Will you be her instructor? How about you KER?
i would suggest an automatic would be ok for hpde1. but it may be helpful to have a temp guage for the trans to be certain it doesn't get to hot.
we are still building our instructor group and it would be difficult to promise any one instructor for any one event at this time. however, the instructors will all be experienced and more than capable to instruct your daughter.
as for your wife, maybe she needs to go for an instructional ride? :)

KER is right on the $$.
An automatic is fine for HPDE. It actually helps in HPDE1 as the driver has one less thing to concentrate on. Since we aren't teaching threshold/trail braking, downshifting, etc to new students this leaves them the ability to focus on the line, other cars and flags.
Our 18 year old did HPDE1 in an automatic Ford Contour and did just fine. While my wife was his instructor for that weekend, we generally recommend that a parent is not the one to do it.
As KER mentioned, we don't have a complete list of instructors but don't worry we'll find good match for her. We will have plenty of instructors - I am working on a program for this first weekend that should insure that:cool:.
