Has there been any interest in an event such as the Texas Mile here in the Rocky Mountain region?

It's not road racing by definition. But I like the idea of a standing mile speed run. I think it would be good to see an event like this as well. Though I have no idea where such an event could be run.

Thoughts?

What is that? Just a 1-mile drag race?

Definitely closer to the silver state classic than a drag race. Except it's more just a speed contest than a 0-100-0 or 0-200-0.

They had the event at a texas airfield. You can a mile of runnign room and apparently they setup the event with a couple different speed goals. You choose the speed goal and try to match it as close as possible.

There ary many of these events coast to coast. The closest being Sandhills Open Road Challenge KOTH. This is an ORR (open road race) with the first day being dedicated to King fof The Hill an all out standing mile speed run. a few years ago a twin turbo Viper went 201mph. Lots of cars over 140 some in the 160s 170s 180s. lots of cars also run the 1/2 mile at the event due to lack of roll cage.

Its a trip going 160 down an elevated 2 lane country road, only takes about 23 or 30 seconds at those speeds.

All in all a good time.

I am familiar with the ORR events. There is a guy with a tubed chassis Red '69 Camaro that holds the present record. I believe, I think his name is, Andy Archer from the American GT race series competes in it.
