Note: We will be renting transponders at the events (typically $30/weekend), but if you are sure you'll need one at least 8-10 times it makes sense to buy one.
suggestion: if you plan on using more than one car then the rechargable nay be the way to go. if you plan on using it in only one car - go with the hardwire. i've known many with the rechargable that had the battry die or go to weak to read and screwed up their race placement.

if you or a friend are SCCA members, they can buy a transponder from the florida region SCCA for $277+$5 shipping. Details at http://www.floridaregionscca.com/transponders.htm
cheers,

It's transponder time.... It looks like we're ready to bite the bullet and buy a load of new rental transponders, decoder, etc. We will order extra transponders for those folks who are ready to get them now. Hopefully we can pass on some savings to you folks while we're at it. :D
I don't have the exact price (still waiting for the quote), but based on the group buy that was put together last year the prices should be similar.
Rechargeable - $340 (list price $375)
Hard Wired - $305 (list price $340)
Let's start a list for a group buy.... who's in?

Any thoughts on the Display-IT as an option?
http://www.pegasusautoracing.com/Images/L/5019.JPG
I guess the first question should be... is this supported at RM events?

It's supported, but it doesn't function as a transponder and it requires one to work.

Correct. I already have a (hardwired) transponder. I was hoping for a deal on the in-car display!!

Jan,
Check the other thread. One of our NASA friendly dealers is selling the displayITs for 15% discount.

Going through www.timingroom.com with the NASA discount puts the price at $276.25. A bit better than the group buy
The full kit with the display would come out to $658.75 with the 15% discount.

I guess my other question was... Will the Display-IT be part of the group buy? If so... what's the price?
The other thread shows a list price of $499 -15% = 424.15

I would like to get in on that $276.25 price. Sounds like that's not a group buy deal, is that correct ?

Interesting. It's $49 less when you buy them as a combo. Then take the 15% off? That's not too bad.
Anyone needing a transponder but not interested in the pricey Display-IT willing to do a mutually beneficial combined purchase? ie: Let's buy the combo, you take the transponder and I take the display and we split the savings from the combo? (I think it would break out to $259.82 for the transponder and $398.93 for the DisplayIT) plus shipping and probably a DisplayIT mounting.
Just a thought.

According to Dave, enter your NASA number at checkout and get a 15% discount - this is not part of the group buy. I haven't gone through the checkout yet to verify where it goes (coupon field?). Still working on the financial manager - a little leary given how much I spent in metal working tools this weekend :o

Guys... I don't know if the 15% applies to a transponder or not. If it does, then that's a great deal. Here is what the currrent offer is that is on the table.
Blind Apex is pleased to offer NASA members a 15% discount on the purchase of a DisplayIT in-car laptimer and display. Members can visit www.timingroom.com and enter their NASA member number in the comment section of the online merchant checkout.

I have been emailing Carl at www.timingroom.com and I am trying to confirm the 15% discount stuff. It may very well be that the discount is ONLY on Blind Apex products (the DisplayIT and brackets) and not on the AMB transponders themselves. The killer deal I had envisioned my not be possible. :( and the best $$ for the actual transponders may still be the group buy.
They are in Quebec and I am guessing they have left for the day by now.
I asked my wife to contact AMB to see what her price would be on these products. (AMB does not show the DisplayIT anywhere on there websites so that leads me to believe the issue above) She worked a VERY nice deal with AMB a couple of years ago as Divisional Admistrator of T&S of Midwest Division SCCA. Unfortunately she won't know anything until tomorrow at the earliest.

Yep, since BlindApex is the creator and mfg of the DisplayIT, they can give NASA a good deal. They are just a reseller of the AMB transponders, so I don't know if they can cut prices that deep on them.
As a side note, Carl has been a huge supporter of NASA and of the RM region. He helped us out last year when we were in a pinch.

Here's what I have found out from Carl at www.timingroom.com
DisplayIT only $499 less 15% NASA discount = $424.15
Transponders only for $325 and $365 (no discounts given)
Carl says he will do $696.40 for the combo & bracket
All have free shipping to Canada and continental USA
So, it looks like the group buy will be a couple of dollars cheaper if you are just looking for a transponder. Carl has free shipping which may offset the savings. If you are looking for a combo then this is a nice savings.

Helped out with timing last June with the Midwest NASA at MAM. Good guys, but they are just too fast for my blood.:) :) :) So I'll get my license this year with SCCA first!!!;)
I'll need the hard wired one.
Take a check from Bill and Ted's Excellent Bank and Trust?
