Somebody asked if HPDE was a reasonable cost. After thinking about it, my answer was a relative yes.

Here's some comparisons for some events. This is just a random sampling. I know there are better (and worse) deals out there.

Auto-X: $40 for 4 minutes = $10 / min

Indoor Karting: $40 for 12 minutes = $3.33 / min

Drifting: $50 for 15 minutes = $3.33 / min

HPDE: $100 for 80 minutes = $0.80 / min

Of course you need to factor in travel costs, additional wear on your car, etc. But for a sport that rivals bungee-jumping (yikes - $700 / min) for pucker factor, you can't beat open track events.

Wow, are you kidding me? This is a great cost. Hell, the $299 I'm used to paying for a 2-day HPDE is well worth it, too. Now, only paying $199 for 2 full days of HPDE fun with the potential of even less for volunteering, and I think it's the best possible use of my money for anything related to my car.

Yes, of course, I have to factor in race gas, brake pads, and wear'n'tear, but that's all part of the game anyway. I'm very pleased with the price, and I'm also very pleased with online registration being open for PMI. I already registered, paid, and got confirmed, despite still being in the DC metro area, hah.

I can't wait...

I know I'm late on this but I wanted to add for a Friday nite drag cost of $25 based on how long it takes you to complete a 1/4 mile, 16 sec., is $1.56 per sec. for one run. The cost rises the faster you go and obviously the cost goes down the more runs you can make in one night.
