Please, please don't let this be a NASCAR/IRL oval! If you look at the company's track building resume (http://www.coloradointernationalraceway.com/aboutisc.html), that tends to be their focus.

Denver needs a facility like MMP for motorsports enthusiasts in NASA, SCCA, PCA, BMWCCA, etc. to come run their cars and motos, not a big tri-oval for fans to come drink beer and watch oval track racing. Let's be motorsports participants!

If I have the story right, this was the plan all along. This company bought the track with the intention of closing it down and tearing it up. They planned on building a modern NASCAR track in the denver area. Because of some NASCAR rules, they couldn't have two tracks in the same area for this kind of racing. And PPIR needed too much money for upgrades to be competative in this small market.

It's a NASCAR company, and they build/operate NASCAR tracks - that's where the money is right now. That means ovals. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll build an infield road course like PPIR (but bigger).

Yeah, I've been reading up on the whole NASCAR plan for a couple years now. It seems that NASCAR has been wanting to come to Denver for a while. PPIR was the first major roadblock. They took care of that with the purchase and sale of the track.

The only other roadblocks are getting desirable land close to the metro area and dealing with the fact that Denver hosts the Denver Grand Prix downtown. The idea is that since Denver already has had a major racing event every year (with the exception of this year and next year) that there isn't a real need for a big NASCAR race track. Once those two issues are dealt with I'm sure we'll start seeing plans for a NASCAR track being thrown around in the media more and more.

you do realize that the DGP is cancelled for at least this year and next, and likely for the foreseeable future unless some deep pockets show up?

One of the candidate locations for the ISC track is where Sutton/CAMA was trying to put a track (just south of Front Range airport) - so this explains why the surrounding land developer pulled his support for the CAMA/Sutton track development ... ;-(

bruce

Frankly, Nascar doesn't interest me at all except when they are on a road course. (Watgins Glen, Infineon) What they should consider is to put another road course on their schedule and run at Genoa. :D Then we will see some real racing from nascar.

Yup, mentioned it in my post - I know that there will be no DGP this year or next (and possibly never again).

It looks like it's about to get ugly. Seems like the same people that forced Second Creek to shutdown are up in arms about the possible track. Tomorrow's meeting should be an interesting one....

On the new track front line.....

We'll be meeting with the folks who will be doing the May Valley Speedway within the next few weeks - they have more details on the Lamar track and will be doing a presentation for us. Maybe not ready for this fall like I had hoped, but it's looking good for 2008.

They are supposed to present tonight (2/20) at the S:cool::cool:A meeting. I might go hang out in the back of the room...

No, they just change the time on the server so it looks like they are up late. They're usually in bed by 7:15 or so. :D

Yeah, that Reunion development looks pretty upscale. I figured this was going to cause a problem with the homeowners there. If I owned a million dollar home (or anything close to a million) I probably wouldn't want a NASCAR track built walking distance from my front door either.

I read in the paper that ISC would pay $90 mil and ask the local community to come up with the other $150 mil. Yet, they were willing to foot the whole bill for the NY location plan that got canned by local officials recently. That tells me that they're interested in Denver, but not necessarily "that" interested. Unless they buy land that's further away from the higher end home developments I don't see them building the track. Fine with me - I don't see that track having an infield road course anyway...

If I owned/wanted to buy/even thought of buying a million dollar home is would NOT be 2 miles from a DIA runway. Why do people that buy a house near an existing runway get mad when a plane takes off an is loud. What better place for a racetrack? The noise can just blend in. Whatever....

Those people sure don't...

Not sure how people can get that kind of money with that little of brain matter...

That's what always got me about the folks wanting to close down Second Creek. It's one thing to protest something that gets built after you move into a location, but it's another thing entirely (IMO) to knowingly move in next to an airport, racetrack or other "disturbance", and then complain about the noise.

Yeah, try arguing that point to them though... you'll get nowhere. I agree with you, there's no better place for a track.

yeah ... the problem was that the special use permit was coming up for renewal, and the real estate agents - in their best full and honest disclosure mode - said that the track would be shut down by a date certain. Maybe that helped them gloss over the airport, a major garbage dump, a sarin gas burial site and the pollution of Second Creek due to the arsenal... OTOH, the owner of the land also wanted the tracks gone so he could cash in, so there were a lot of strikes.
cheers,
bruce

we are still quietly working behind the scenes. there is far more to putting a track together than putting up your local grocery store. it's kind of like putting a 1000 piece puzzle together. we will, like in the past, be sure you all get notified of significant updates. :D

I see it as a good thing, bringing any more racing goodness to the state can only help the motorsport scene here. Not my favorite thing, but there's a helluva lot more things I like less than NASCAR.

LOL, I just read the press release...the PR firm I used to intern for is handling it. They used to have me running all over around Reunion collecting info on the competition. Whoever is their intern now gets to do fun stuff :)
