Well Drivers . Pueblo was AWESOME and we had our 5 cars ! The effort was well worth it and We have a few Drivers that are looking to join 944-spec racing in the Rocky Mountian Region. Now here is the Big QUESTION ???? Will We have 5 cars for Lajunta ? If we have 5 We get $800 in Toyo bucks plus our regular sponsors $400 ! But if We only have 4 the cash drops off fast. So we might build an extra car to earn the contingency $. Or drag an extra driver into our Fun!

So, the sooner We know the greater action we can take to make sure all of the cars are ready for the Race.

So chime in status of car and intent to race at Lajunta. New 944-spec racers please post here so others know your intent.

1. Chuck Taylor 944-Spec YES I'm going !

So that's one.

Over the weekend David convinced me this was the series to join - sooo, if the stars align correctly and we can find a car and get it legal (if not competitive) I'll be there. If not I'll be ready for Pueblo in July.

BTW - you may want to watch your back David - I think my wife has got a hit man looking for you.

Ummm.....:o.....sorry, Mrs. Grande!

Doug,

Glad to hear I've corrupted, I mean, interested you in this series! Feel free to contact me with questions or whatever.

I'm looking into the class as well. Not sure if we could have a car ready in time and there's that pesky issue of a comp license. With some luck the last place car may have some competition.

Chuck,

I am in if it is possible. You know the car and the amount of money I have on hand. We are down to three weeks (tic, tic, tic) let me know if we are proceeding with my car being one of the five or if I should focus on another HPDE weekend. I will be in La Junta regardless.

John if your going to LaJunta anyways I think it would be better to get paid $125 per day .....

Lets hear what Chewy and White Lightn are thinking......

I probably wont make La Junta (at least not as a driver)... I'd like to, but it's just too soon after I killed myself and my finances to have the car ready for last weekend's event. I already cut into April's budget a little bit to make this happen, and I have some other expenses that I need to take care of, including fixing my two other cars.

So, it's just a better decision to just sit this one out, let my stress level go down, and have plenty of time and money to get the car how I want it to be before it's next race (which unfortunately wouldn't be until July at Pueblo, since MAM on June 30th conflicts with one of the 3 weekends this year that I have to work). Besides, we're all going to have to plan for a head & neck system in July, and that means $300+ for the cheapest Isaac device or a G-Force SRS-1 (which is apparently discontinued), or at least double that for the other systems.

I read the CCR and a net is ok - 95.00 from Race Tech

I'm planning on going, but I'm not 100% sure I can make it at this point. If my car was the fifth car (five cars are needed to be eligible for Toyo bucks) I would certainly do my best to be there or else figure out a way for someone else to drive the car such that the minimum requirements of the race are met.

Come July 1st, we will need a right side net like that, but it looks like they're also going to require a HANS-like device as well. They just haven't made up their mind on what's acceptable yet, which is frustrating because we all need to plan around this requirement. The Isaac "Link" (http://www.isaacdirect.com/html/product.html#Link) looks like the best device on a budget, but it's still around $300, and we still don't know if NASA considers it (or the high-end versions) acceptable or not.

CCR says:
15.17.9 Head Restraint – Side Impact
As of July 1st, 2007 it is required that all drivers employ a right-side impact head restraint
system. A seat with a “bolster” to keep the head from moving to the right side in an
impact is acceptable. A side-impact head-net restraint system, such as the Racetech
RTViperRP is also acceptable. Note- all side-impact head-net restraint systems must
have a quick-release mechanism to aid the driver in case of a necessary egress via the
passenger side.

The part I'm talking about is the very end of 15.17.8...

"15.17.8 Head and Neck Restraint
Neck injuries can be severe and long lasting, and can occur even in minor collisions. Use of a head and neck restraint system is strongly recommended and may be mandatory in some series. A neck support collar is permitted, however if used, it must be covered in fire resistant material such as Nomex. Any competitor with previous neck injuries or other similar medical condition is required to wear a neck support collar or another head / neck restraint device, unless otherwise prohibited by a doctor. It is the sole responsibility of the competitor to ensure compliance with this rule. NASA will not be held responsible for enforcement. References and information can be found in “Appendix D,” section #29.0 of the CCR.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Use of a head and neck restraint system or device, meeting SFI specifications, may become mandatory for all road race series as of July 1, 2007."

A lot of people seem to be thinking that "may" really means "will". The problem is that the Isaac device doesn't comply with SFI 38.1 because it's not a single disconnect, and G-Force SRS-1 doesn't comply with it either because it was just barely over the test limits. The jury is still out on if NASA ( and other clubs) is going to come to their senses and allow at least the Isaac device...

they have had the impending need for an H&NR device in the CCR for the last couple of years and keep shifting the possible-applicability date. All of the sanctioning bodies (except BMWCCA) are in this holding pattern because it is a very tough decision, and, unfortunately, SFI is behaving too much like the manufacturer-funded body that they are. You can also bet that SCCA and NASA won't both mandate these on the same date because there is no way that the manufacturers can ramp up to supply >50 thousand of these in short order.

Check out the Leatt Brace as well. It is SFI 38.1 certified (unless SFI arbitrarily changes the standard because they are half the cost of the others ... don't get me started...) and provides front, rear and side support and no head-turning restrictions. I have one on order, but want to hear some real-use testimonials (they're not shipping yet for cars, just motorcycles, where they are overwhelmed)
cheers,
bruce

What does the Leatt cost? Their website says TBD.

they had posted $400 when I put my name on the order list, but I suspect it will go up.
The auto versions aren't expected before the end of April now - the motorcycle version has been so popular. People are wondering if the motorcycle, body strap on version might be useful in a car without harnesses (HPDE, instructors, etc.)

I talked to Frank about two of his cars but he hasn't gotten back to me to finalize a deal. So with time becoming critical I'm doubtful for Lajunta. I'm also receiving some pressure from a a certain E30 guy who shall remain nameless (but posts to this discussion :D ).

E30 ??? whats that  oh yea ... the bmw race cars .... I think I saw one on the internet one time but never in person. .

Like I said at pueblo Doug, "E30 will be great fun" and there is room for both classes out here in NASARM. besides if we get too many 944-spec cars I will be forced to share all of the $ponsor$hip money. Or I could just let everyone know about or newest $pon$or...

I will give Frank a call.

90% sure I’m going but will run HPDE I just don’t have the time or money to get me and the car legal in two weeks.

you saw one in Pueblo! (Rich Vogl)

I think my last comment to Doug was similar - both classes will grow and be a lot of fun, and it likely won't be too hard to sell a car and switch to either class down the road.
cheers,
bruce

I'm trying to start some sh#! and you guys (Chuck and Bruce) just won't take the bait! Both series will be on the track at the same time and have basically the same power to weight ratio. So it should be fun to have a friendly rivalry between the two camps. Or should I just be quiet since I don't even have a car yet?:o
