With all of the global warming bS floating around I found this interesting.
Just shining a little sun on the truth...
A Story of Two Houses
HOUSE # 1:
A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural
gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated
by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the
average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for
electricity and natural gas runs over $2, 400.00 per month. In natural gas
alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American
Home. This house is not in the northern or Midwestern "snow belt ." It's in the South.
HOUSE # 2:
Designed by an architecture professor, this house incorporates
every "green" feature current home cons truction can provide. The
house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid-high
prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds
geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the
ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and
cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels--such as oil or natural
gas--and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional
heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a
25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and
toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The
collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and
shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.
ANSWERS:
HOUSE # 1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee. It is the abode of
that renowned environmentalist (and filmmaker), Dr. Al Gore.
HOUSE # 2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas. It is the pr ivate
residence of the President of the United States, George W. Bush.
So whose house is gentler on the environment?
Yet another story you WON'T hear on CNN, CBS, ABC, NBC, MSNBC or read about in the New York Times or the Washington Post. Indeed, for Dr. Gore, it's truly "an inconvenient truth"!!

I've heard the gore story on the news before. He claims that he offsets the environmental damage by purchasing "carbon credits" - there are companies now that you can pay to plant trees, etc. to offset the pollution that you create. Whatever allows them to sleep at night, I guess...
snopes.com is definitely cool - however, I can't get my father-in-law to check it first before forwarding on every email he gets to 30 of his friends...

I'm sure pollution is having a pretty negative effect on the world, but I also have a feeling that we'll find another way to destroy ourselves before our environmental karma gets us. Either way, the more I deal with the general population, the more I welcome the apocalypse...

Allow those folks who want to abort their babies, abort their babies.

I'm tired of people complaining about this global warming topic, (not pointing to anyone here, just in general) I want to see solutions not more complaints!!!
So they're part of the problem if they aren't contributing to a solution.
You don't see me complaining, I'm complaining about the complainers. :D

You have got to be on something to believe that crap. It belongs in the fiction section along with Mr Moores fine work. All that "movie" did was grease Gores pockets and pump up his ego. You will see old stiffy take a run at the Dems pick in 2008 riding on his new found fame. Go figure.

Both sides of the climate change debate can offer up good scientific reasoning for their theories. However, right now they are exactly that, theories. We won't know until after it's too late, or when it never happens which side is "right". I suggest each person objectively review the "facts" and make their own conclusion and modify, or not modify their lifestyle accordingly. Practice what you preach goes both ways.
Similarly, I hear a lot of folks bitch about the evil empire that is Wal-Mart. However, Wal-Mart is the second largest local employer in Goodland behind the school district with local annual sales of $11-14 million. With the 7% local sales tax, you can see where a lot of local tax dollars come from. Not all of that is from locals either. There is a lot of Interstate traffic and a big draw from rural Colorado residents...so there is a community influx of money.
Before Wal-Mart came to town, there were more Mom-and-Pop business offering similar goods. However, these businesses were run more as hobbies and were much less efficient than the Wal-Mart empire. If Wal-Mart wasn't here, there would be fewer similar jobs available, wages and benefits would be lower, and grocery and household item selection would be less.
Folks can complain about Wal-Mart all they want, but when it comes time to make a consumer decision and vote with their dollars, most of them just aren't willing to drive 30 miles to buy higher priced groceries, spend 25 more cents for a 12 pack of toilet paper, a $1 more for a case of beer at the local liquor store, $2.00 more for the same piece of hardware that could be bought at the local hardware store, or spend $3.00 more for the same oil changing supplies that could be bought at one of the local parts houses.
That was the smaller picture.
In the bigger picture are we making short term buying decisions, only to effectively drive manufacturing and production outside the U.S. borders, increasing the national trade deficit and driving down wages nationwide? Or, are we finally learning how to stremline and increase the efficiency of American industry that has traditionally been wasteful at the expense of natural resources...including fossil fuels...leading to the production of more CO2 which is contribututing to anthropogenic global warming?
How's that for bringing it full circle?
It also reminds me I need to buy more beer and a new trash can when I go to Wal-Mart today.
