Well we all need tires I might have found a local dealer who could provide us with tires, wheels, and mounting. i dont think he could provide track service but who knows he has a car that he is interested in tracking. the dealer is wheelmasters.net the owner is Todd. what i need to know for now is you needs/wants (just wheel related).
something like
chuck taylor
8 toyo ra1 225/50/15
then i will compare prices nationwide and hit him up for a good deal. i think around 50 tires should get us a great deal but this is my first try at this. so let me know asap what you need! he also has stickers to go on race cars but i will defer that to Dave to see if wheelmasters want to be a local sponsor.

What a great idea!
I would be in for 4-8 225/50/16 RA1's. 4 for sure...and probably 4 more depending on when it actually conspires!
Thx!

I'll need 4.
But, size is pending feedback from several questions I've asked around the 'net. They'll be something between a 225/55-16 and a 255/50-16.

This would be awesome for me:
4 Toyo RA-1 255/40R17
I need these received, mounted, and balanced before the 25th of Feb, though, so I may have to call him on my own. Is there anyway to go ahead with the group buy? I might have to request some express shipping that I pay on the side, but I'd rather help with the group buy and get a better deal than buy separately on my own.

I finally decided on the RA-1 225/50ZR16 tires...unless the RA-1 255/50ZR16 size is more popular and therefore cheaper. Then I'll get those.
For comparison, I priced these at the local (that's a relative term in western KS) Toyo dealer today. Is it a bad sign when the guy can't find his price list and has to call you back later? $228 + mount, balance, and tax with about a 10 day wait on delivery after ordering. Ouch! That would make it 2X more expensive than the most expensive tire I've ever purchased.
Come on baby, daddy's lookin' for that group buy discount!

I tried calling, but the number on the site was out of order, so I had to go ahead and order some Ecsta V710s elsewhere, since I found them for about the same price as RA-1s, and I will auto-x more than road race.

#1 since we are just getting the NASA group back on it's feet again this year, I'd say best price today with a continued relationship down the road as we populate the different groups within the region.
#2 wholeheartedly YES.

Of course I have a very biased opinion, but going with a shop who will support you (or us) in the long run will be critical. Since RA-1s are the spec tires for 80% of NASA's wheel to wheel race classes, having a local supplier who can support us at the track will be paramount as we move forward. I'm working that end of the process. If you guys happen to do the group buy from a local shop and they give us good results, then this might make my job easier.
Here are some things to keep in mind when you go looking for a shop:
1. Buying from a remote shop can be cheaper and there are plenty of good ones. http://www.toyo.com/racing/nasa/MotorsportsDealers.pdf These guys are almost guaranteed to do a quality shave. However, they can't come to the track for us...
2. You'll need to find someone to mount/balance. This isn't so bad until you try to get the shop to do something "tricky". The RA-1s lifetime can be extended greatly by flipping them on the wheels when one edge starts to wear thin. Most tire shops will not do this due to the fact that the RA1 is technically directional. I've show the shops the bulletin FROM Toyo saying that it is acceptable to do this and they still won't flip the tires. I've heard of some shops who won't mount shaved tires - they say the tires are no good because they have reached the wear bars .
3. If you buy tires that aren't shaved and you need to do this, you'll need someone to shave them. NOT ALL shave jobs are created equal. There is an art to shaving tires that will affect the life of the tire and affect how quick it will be. I've seen a bad shave ruin a $600 set of tires in one session (they weren't RA1s).
I have about 100 black and 100 white Toyo decals for race cars. We'll have them at the March event. You must properly display the decals in order to qualify for the Toyo contingencies (starting at the May event).

I've kept out of the group by so far since I have a bunch of used Toyos from last year that "should" get me through most of this season. But, you might try The Tire Source in Boulder, ask for Pete. Pete is a great guy and can get most anything you/we need. Here are some plusses with going with The Tire Source:
1) $11 to mount/balance an alloy rim, which is pretty much dirt cheap. And he WILL remount tires inside out as long as you mark them correctly! ;)
2) Onsite shaver (older then dirt but easy to use, even I've used it!) that can correct some of the "bad" shave jobs or to even out a flat spot.
3) The do some of the best, if not the best, alignments in Denver and almost cater to the racer. He's did my WC SRT4 all of last year and many of our other cars.
Give him a call and see what he can do. 303-443-3021 and tell him I sent you.

I used bmwwheels for lowest prices. with them you pay for shipping, mounting/bal .
example... 225/50/15 128+ship $15 + mount/bal $25 at discount tire. = 168 per tire ($132+tax for us). BTW toyo just raised there prices so i would guess bmwwheels is going to raise theres soon.
The Tire Source in boulder. 303-443-3021
225/50/15 $122
275/40/17 $167.50
255/50/16 $162
225/50/16 $156
205/50/16 $117
The details.
1. Talk to Pete when you order.
2. Pay with cash or check (credit card pays 2% extra)
3. ONLY $10 to mount and bal.
4. $15 to shave
5. actual cost to ship fedex ground.
6. can drop ship from toyo $2.
7. give him some time, about a week to get them.
Pete comes recomended by Rick (above) and Bob at apex performance.
If you have any questions or problems let me know and if you want in on our group buy just give Pete a call he might hook you up.
I'm going to order on monday please order as soon as you can so he knows our group buy is for real.

You guys made the right choice!!!
I talked with Pete on Saturday (to get some wheels/tires ready for shipping) and again this morning. He's excited to be working with you guys and will take very good care of you. In over five years of doing business with him I have never had an issue with anything he has done for me. All the other guys there (Steve an others) are great too.

Kevin,
It depends on what time I get out of the tire shop in Boulder. I'll have my cell, the number is 307.631.6451. By the time I leave Boulder, and get through Denver, I'm sure I'll be at wits end. I'm praying for dry roads...I have new paint, and just finishing my car. Is there a number I can reach you at?

OK, but you have to arrange with Pete, and not harbor bad feelings if I encounter delays or problems getting to Pueblo. I'll assume the tires will be mounted on the wheels. Just in case I never make it to Pueblo, what do you figure they're worth? :D
