I'm considering selling my formula car to buy something more foolish, and would love to see it go to someone who will enjoy the heck out of it.
Some of you know the car - it's essentially a Formula Ford with motorcycle power. Engine is a stock, fuel-injected Honda CBR929RR 4-cylinder sportbike motor. 150 hp and 74 pounds of torque, 11,100 rpm redlining, six-speed sequential transmission. Tested last week - less than 4% leakdown. Runs on pump gas (91 octane).
Chassis was designed and built by Colorado's Danny Collins - this is one of his Pocket Rockets. (Yes, this is a sister car to the other one that was up for sale.) The chassis is very similar to a Crossle 32/35 Formula Ford. 780 pounds empty. Koni double-adjustable shocks, etc. Many professional upgrades including left-foot brake pedal, resizing to fit 6'1” driver, etc.
This is great fun on track, whatever the circumstances. I've done open track days, test/tune, HPDE with NASA, road-raced with SCCA, and it would autocross in A Modified or B Modified (couldn't figure out the SCCA rules). RMVR said it can run "Exhibition" class with them.
Like all formula cars, it's phenomenal to drive. The experience is nearly overwhelming and the responsiveness is instant. This car is faster than a good Formula Ford (if you are a good enough driver) but has a modern, stock, relatively low-stress motor. For a purpose-built racecar, it's very low-maintenance.
Meets all SCCA safety requirements - includes six-point harness, fire system, etc. Current SCCA logbook and homologation as Formula 1000/FB, Formula Special/FB, and can run in the Rocky Mountain Region as Formula Junior. I'll provide a 2010 Annual Tech, too.
Includes a small open trailer. Super easy to tow and store - loaded trailer with car is under 1,400 pounds!
Spares include extra chain, engine manual, plenty of tires, K&N Air filter, oil, and a couple of boxes of small parts. More spares available separately include extra wheels, extra shocks, extra springs, and the original fiberglass molds for the bodywork as a formula car and as a sports racer.
If you're considering a dedicated racecar, especially a purpose-built car, you should check this out. Please email or PM with questions or to talk more. It's on Craigslist for $8,250, but much less for someone on this list.
