So here's what I found out: there will be a series of three enduros with dates tentatively set for the July 4th (!!!) August and October races on the RMR calendar. Sponsorship/marketing opportunities for each race and the series is still available, tell your friends, send money. Ideas for race format (length, pit stops, etc.) can be noted in this thread for all to see (so nothing too weird!) Preferences for things like Friday afternoon enduro and the usual Sat/Sun sprint races vs a Sunday afternoon enduro after the sprints should be discussed, too.

Update: the august HPR enduro will be rescheduled if possible. your thoughts?

ALSO!!! we may have the opportunity to pay for some trophies while fun raising for a good cause. Win win! Last year's top finisher completed 86 laps. At 50 cents a lap that's around $50, a good goal per driver. If we can get 25 drivers to do that each race we'll have a significant contribution to make at the end of season and nice trophies for the top fundraisers at the NASA banquet. Start thinking now about who you know would support your effort: the neighbor you annoy revving your engine every Saturday you DON'T race; get the uninvolved significant other involved; get your boss to match funds. This year's cause is breast cancer. I know we all have friends or family affected by this problem. Next year may be different depending on this year's results. PM me and I'll send you my number and we can chat if you have questions or would like to help otherwise. Thanks...

Phil,
I think a Friday afternoon enduro would see lower fields as so many people work Friday before heading to the track. The other question is will people be up for running an Enduro and possibly risking the rest of their weekend? Granted, we could fix the mechanical that knocked us out of the enduro pretty easy over-night (torched alternator), but something more serious? guess it all depends what people's goals are

The goal that Phil and I have set is simple. We plan to have an endurance series that starts to stand on it's own without affecting sprint racers.

There are a ton of NASA racers that only run endurance races. For them, the endurance race is their weekend. We feel that we can do the same here.

Maybe not this season, but by 2012. I had a dream. We started the first NASA RM event with 2 race cars (Raybob & York), the 3rd weekend it was 4 race cars. The 5th weekend it was 6...

"I have a dream!" Dave is visionary! how can we make his dream a reality? if your fans pledge 25 or 50 cents a lap to cure cancer they might show up to watch. if there's more fans there's more fun. if there's more fun there's more sponsors looking for more sales. if there's more sales the sponsors give more cash and prizes. more cash and prizes draws more drivers. more drivers means more laps...

And nothing beats the heroic team that blows up and pulls all night to make the grid by race time, THEN comes from behind to take the hard charger award! oh! my! god!

... of course nothing beats car prep. for us cake eaters i found a write-up by Ken Huey for the team that did the 25 hrs of thunderhill in '07.

http://944spec.org/944SPEC/content/view/95/9/

i'm sure the Mazda and BMW folks have something like this to share...

and the friday thing was just a test. I figured it was the longshot of several ideas Dave and Revkah and I chatted on. thanks to the RagingAardvark for caring.

so you know, he spoke for a number of us. I sort of enjoyed the enduro at HPR, though the rules enforcement bothered me a great deal...

in any event, enduros are not my preference. i'm sure others will enjoy them immensely.

and btw, I think I was one of those four race cars...

thanks for upholding the "series" last year Chris!

What was the deal with the rules that bugged you? Dave didn't tell me about hiring an enforcer...

i tend to be pretty ignorant of rules anyway (but try to stay within them to be safe)

;-p

...also the American Cancer Society is pleased to become the official charity of the enduro series. Sponsors are being solicited to send prizes to the ACS to give our top earning drivers for each race and in the series. More info as sponsors step up and the July fourth Pikes Peak or Bust Enduro draws near. A few cents a lap goes a long way if you have a few friends and neighbors pitching in. Heck, they might even want to come cheer you on...
